Just voted @theSNP for the first time ever in my life. As an ex staunch @ScotTories voter and member for years (my family as well), I was also a NO voter in 2014 and I am ashamed I have supported and trusted them for so long. How could I have been so blind? /1
I believe it was more about family. My dad, English, Unionist to his core, War Vet. He used to tell us stories about how the Union was worth fighting for and how we should protect them just like him and his friends fought for. Today he thinks otherwise - so does the whole family.
Today, all of us (We are 15 total) are voting @theSNP. You would perhaps want to ask me why? Sure thing. The Union isn't working in Scotland anymore. Can you even call this an Union when all they do is treat us with contempt and when devolution isn't working for the good of us.

Dear Scotland

You might not want to listen to me. I used to be a Tory. Like, I used to work for them. I like to think that it was at a time when they were moderate but we can argue about that some other time.

Last time around, I was vehemently pro-No.

But they lied.

1/7
They lied when they told you that Scotland's place was as an equal partner in a UK at the heart of Europe. I can see that now. And looking back, I am sorry to say that I did not see it before. But it has been a lie for a long, long time.

Scotland is a trophy, not a partner.

Scotland has been the English magic money tree for a long old time. They took the oil revenue and 'spaffed it up the wall'. The idiots didn't even invest it for the future. They literally wasted it.

The Alba party candidates, their problematic behaviour, and why you shouldn’t let them anywhere near Holyrood. A thread 👇 (1/)
First off the Fmr FM himself. Who amongst other things was accused of attempted rape and tried in a criminal court. And whilst he wasn’t convicted, his lawyer admitted his behaviour wasn’t appropriate, and his accusers maintain their story.

He is not an ally of woman. (2/)
Next up is Chris McEleny, the lead candidate in West Scotland.

He has defended conversion therapy when Patrick Harvie called out the Catholic Church being linked to groups & has also implied that trans deaths aren’t tragic.

He is a danger to the LGBT community. (3/)

Just looking through the actual text of @theSNP manifesto now. There are so many highlights.
Focus on improving mental health services - 25% increase in direct Scot Gov investment.
Funding to support families visiting children who receive in patient care. I’ve met many parents who’ve struggled with this when their bairns have been in hospital in Glasgow or elsewhere.

First Minister @NicolaSturgeon announcing the transformational @theSNP manifesto, pledging large increases in NHS spending and a focus on mental health too.

We will abolish all NHS dentistry charges! Yaaaass! 🦷 universal healthcare provided free at the point of need. So many of my constituents will benefit from this. (Too many 😢)
A National wage for care staff. So, so important. 25% increase in spend on social care over course of the Parliament. And removing charges for non residential social care!

This thread is designed to explain to you how the unionists feel about Alba.

We have attached an article at the end of this thread from a unionist perspective on the voting system at Holyrood.
This article (at the end of this thread) demonstrates their serious concerns about losing List Seats.
It is not a unique article; most unionists with knowledge of how the Scottish parliamentary voting system works are worried about the prospect of a Referendum being significantly speeded up because of the tactical voting of Independence supporters.

So tonight I've noticed an interesting pattern relating to #BothVotesSNP that's worth flagging.

I've spotted several, apparently fake pro-SNP accounts, all based outside of Scotland, all using weird language. Buckle up...

Thread 👇
Here's 'Noah' in London. 'Noah' advocating a 'savior [sic] leader'? Really? Doesn't that language seem odd to any reasonable person?
But wait, there's more: here's Monica, a London based socialist advocating for #BothVotesSNP

"make your destiny" - Really?

For whatever reason (probably decades of the media telling you lies), you’ve decided you don’t like Alex Salmond.

You have lost all rational thought. You have no basis upon which to dislike him but “you just do”.

Plus you think there is no smoke without fire even though (2)
(2) the court cases categorically demonstrated both HIS INNOCENCE and the lies of the accusers.

You “just like” Nicola even though her version of Independence is AT LEAST 5+ years away. Even though there is £600k missing.

Even though her husband is obstructing the process. (3)
(3) and even though she continually states #BothVotesSNP (thereby allowing unionists into our Parliament when that needn’t be the case).

But you “just prefer” Nicola. Why? What has Nicola herself actually done for you? The policies upon which you base your SNP Vote? Who was (4)

🗳️ Who do we trust to lead Scotland’s recovery and shape our future?

SO! The tables for that Scotsman poll have been released and there are some interesting findings for Yes and the SNP (Thread) 👇
1. The majority of Scots aged 16-54 support independence by *very* healthy margins:

16-24: 72%
25-34: 66%
35-44: 65%
45-54: 59%
2. Independence is still quite popular among two opposition parties:

34% of 2019 Labour voters back independence.

23% of 2019 Liberal voters back independence.

I'm certainly not unique in this, I rarely have time in any day to focus on distractions within sections of the independence movement.

I'm laser focused on #SP21.

But I will use this moment to make it clear that Tories are banking on infighting doing their work for them. Image
If you are pro-independence, regardless of political affiliation, I'd advise it's best to do everything that you can to make sure that pro-independence voices are elected at #SP21 to ensure that Scotland has a choice about its future.

For me, that's by making it #BothVotesSNP.
With over 20 polls indicating majority support for Scottish independence and the most popular political leader in the UK, we have what is without a doubt, our best ever chance at succeeding. Image

🚨 Boris Johnson is coming to Scotland today to try and salvage some sort of support for the union.

👀 It would be a shame if someone was to ruin his visit by doing a thread on just some of the things the PM has said about Scotland and devolution...

🔎 Oh look, a thread!
❌ In November 2020, Boris Johnson told his MP’s that "devolution has been a disaster north of the border" and it was "Tony Blair's biggest mistake".

❌ He also told this MPs that under him no more powers would be handed down from Westminster.

❌ In February 2001, Boris Johnson also had this to say on devolution...

"2016 & the SNP's Four Seats"

You can bet money that no discussion on the list will happen without someone chiming in that the SNP only won 4 seats in 2016, & that it can 'only win' in a few regions.

Their opinion has become fossilised, they can't open their minds as to why....
They singularly fail to understand that the number of list seats won is NOT limited by having a constituency landslide.

Even if you win *all* the constituency seats, you can still win seats on the list if your % share is similar or higher.

Notion that SNP 'can't win' is false.
As ever, words mean nothing without data to back them up.

So let's look again at 2016, and the claims that SNP can't win in more regions & thus win more than 4 seats - assumed to be a 'plateau', putting a ceiling on SNP hopes & feeding narrative that an SNP list vote is wasted.

This was posted in reply to me earlier today, presumably by a supporter of the ISP.

I asked where the safe list seats are, but no reply.

But this raises an important point about there being "safe list seats" for the SNP. Image
We are told that the ISP isn't planning to stand candidates in the South of Scotland list, because in 2016 the SNP won three of its four list seats there. Image
f this is true, then they are basing their strategy on over four year old results, and ignoring the current polling situation.

Modelling the latest Panelbase poll, shows that on current levels of support, the SNP isn't likely to win *any* list seats in the South of Scotland: Image

Lots of people are happy with today's poll numbers, which is great...

...but remember 2016 when the narrative took hold that the SNP were guaranteed a majority...

1/3
...for weeks we said we didn't think that likely but the press (perhaps understandably) thought we were just talking expectations down...

...the result was some people thought it was "safe" to vote for someone else...

...the result was no majority and emboldened Tories...

2/3
...so while today's numbers are nice, there are no guarantees in politics...

...and there is still a very long way to go until May.
