15 days of mandatory national lockdown will do much more for enviroment than 'cracker ban' and 'odd even' idioticsm.

Pitra paksh may be - 15 days of simple and sober life will also help accuring the mandatory spiritual practice of Pitra-tarpan.
Keep 15 days as mandatory and planned national lockdown every 6 months.

Ecomonic loss is Ok!

Economy and comfort can be, should be and must be compromised over enviroment.

Clock is ticking fast.

Another suggestion -
Celebrate minimum 30 days every year where only emergency services and public transports are allowed, to cut down on vehicular pollution.

Make 'WFH' compulsory where ever it can be practiced.

"Be realistic: demand the impossible!" — a slogan coined by the Parisian anarchists of May 1968 — is actually a surprisingly good principle to setting effective targets (🧵):

There's a smart, cynical thing to say when presented with a series of ambitious-sounding long-term targets like those presented at last week's #ClimateSummit:

Talk is cheap. Action is expensive. Climate promises are always broken.
theguardian.com/environment/20…
About a third of all the greenhouse emissions in history happened since the 1997 Kyoto protocol.

That doesn't sound like international agreements are very effective!

This thread discusses an extremely interesting excerpt from a book I'm reading called "Spillover: Animal Infections and the Next Human Pandemic" by David Quammen. The author lists these events and asks the reader: What do they have in common?

@jairbolsonaro acabou de perder a oportunidade de demostrar o seu compromisso com fim do desmatamento no #ClimateSummit . Aqui 10 medidas que pode tomar imediatamente para combater o desmatamento já.
tassoazevedo.blogspot.com/2021/04/dez-me…

The United States, the world's largest economy is about to officially annouce atleast a HALVING of its emissions and new @TheAusInstitute shows Australia should do the same

Thread #auspol
At Biden’s Earth Day Leaders #ClimateSummit tonight, Australia will be left behind when the US announce 50-52% cut to emissions by 2030.

We have no reason not to follow. That is what fair, proportional and aligned with Paris Agreement #auspol #abc730

thenewdaily.com.au/news/2021/04/2…
New @TheAusInstitute research shows the US and Aus have followed parallel emission paths.

The US significant increase to 50% cut could be copied by Australia to keep both aligned.

Copying a 50% cut would be proportional and fair #auspol #abc730

More than 5 million people depend on #Mesoamerica's 5 forests. They keep 1/2 of Mesoamerica's carbon stores locked away.

But we are losing the 5 forests.

Today, we are participating in a conversation focused on addressing the drivers of deforestation. #NatureNow #ClimateSummit ImageImage
@Global_Wildlife @Nature4Climate @radachowsky @WCSNewsroom @JoeWalston_WCS @WCS_Mesoamerica We must ...
-Address drivers of deforestation, esp. illegal cattle ranching
-Improve forest governance by strengthening management of PAs, community forests, and indigenous territories
-Improve livelihoods w/ forest-friendly and climate resilient economic alternatives #NatureNow Image
@Global_Wildlife @Nature4Climate @radachowsky @WCSNewsroom @JoeWalston_WCS @WCS_Mesoamerica @WCSAdapts Deforestation is only a part of the problem, says WCS's Tom Evans. It's also about the health of the forest.

Right now, we're speaking alongside @WWF and @UQ_News on trouble below the canopy. #NatureNow Image
