Great point from @RosemaryKayess about segregation increasing the risk of abuse across all areas - housing, education, work. Other witnesses have also emphasised research showing that being part of the wider community, with strong relationships, protects people. #DisabilityRC
People with #disability are not "vulnerable" or "at risk" by default because of our disability! We are MADE vulnerable and PUT at risk by systems that isolate us from other people (with disability and without!)

@VEOHRC [CN sexual abuse] Eastman is now questioning Devansen about the wording of the couple sentences in Yooralla's submission that reference the Kumar case. Why "acts of a sexual nature" instead of "crimes"?

Dr Spivakovsky makes the point that people without disability can get frustrated and angry, or behave in a way other people don't like, without anybody using that as a reason to tie them down or sedate them.

#DisabilityRC
When "challenging behaviour" is a response to your environment, the answer is to change the environment, not punish the behaviour.

#DisabilityRoyalCommission
The Chair seemed to be saying earlier that the statement said 100,000 in state schools and 35,000 in other schools (e.g. private schools), unclear what the issue is with those numbers.
