We've created a short brief on what rape culture is, and, most importantly, how each of us can help #EndRapeCulture in Namibia.
Please help us share these important notes!
#MeTooNamibia
To #EndRapeCulture, we need to understand what it is, what causes it and the ways in which it manifests in our society.

These graphics help explain Rape Culture.
But, understanding Rape Culture may not always be enough for us to act.

Statistics from the Namibian Police (as published by @theconfidente) paint a horrifying [and yet, probably understated] image of the extent of SGBV in Namibia.

I have had way too much rage since posting Live to my Facebook to be able to make a coherent post but I will one because now this has become too much.

This is what happened!
The entourage begins arriving in "cars"...

@FriehaAltaf moves the water stall and limo soda vendors back from the road (one of the two was giving everything on discount to the protestors but was clearly too ugly to be in this celebrity protests press shots)...

The Kogi Commissioner that allegedly battered and raped Ms. Elizabeth is now in Custody at the @PoliceNG FHQ after several attempts to obstruct justice by the Governor of the state. He is currently making a statement & we hope he will be detained & charged for his infringement.
The pressure from the state Governor to have this man walk free despite his crime against humanity is unthinkable. We are calling on the @PoliceNG_CRU and the office of the IGP to ensure justice is served. He must be charged to court for his abuse based on evidence gathered.
Violence against women must never become a norm neither should it be reinforced by the political class. Elizabeth has gone through Hell. There’s been many threats to her life on the record & the @PoliceNG investigation have all the evidence. #JusticeForElizabeth #EndImpunity

When engaging in sexual activity, look out for VERBAL cues from the other party/parties to ensure that you have their enthusiastic and affirmative consent.
#ConsentIs #EndRapeCulture

P.S. This list is non-exhaustive. Image
Sometimes people may appear to be expressing their consent using non-verbal communication. Body language and gestures, you know?
Still, make it a habit to get verbal enthusiastic consent. Be sure and don’t just assume.
#ConsentIs #EndRapeCulture
Acquiring verbal enthusiastic consent is important because many times, people who’ve experienced sexual assault are silent and appear to “give in” for fear of harm or wanting the incident to be over, NOT because they’re consenting.

There are no grey areas; consent is as simple as A, B and C. Image
All parties about to engage in a sexual act must agree, every single time. #ConsentIs #EndRapeCulture Image
The parties must all understand what they are about to do; that they are about to engage in a sexual act. #ConsentIs #EndRapeCulture Image

I was discussing in a forum the dangers that await the future of our vulnerable population as per harmful cultural practices, and explored how the culture of rape is being wittingly and unwittingly being reinforced in our dying society. #SGBV #EndRapeCulture @PeluOlajengbesi
@PeluOlajengbesi How do we begin to advocate for social protection laws in a society where we follow another's authority, another's experience and then doubt it; this search for authority and its sequel, disillusionment, is a painful process no doubt based on the obvious. @RotimiAkeredolu
@PeluOlajengbesi @RotimiAkeredolu How can e expect our wards to chart the sea of self-knowledge following the leader with the expectation of being secure and finding a safe refuge only to be preyed upon by the very same people we look up to for protection? #SGBV

In the wake of the rape at the court, even after the case file was admitted to have been lost on two occasions, reputable organization have started expressing their condemnation of the obvious reinforcement of the rape culture in our society. Read this:
“We at Gender Mobile have taken cognisance of the decision of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory which sat in Bwari on Busola Dakolo's case against Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo and we condemn in strong terms the totality of the court’s decision.
The court's refusal to assume jurisdiction on the matter is a monumental concern to the future of our judiciary. Further to this is the award of 1million naira against Busola which is a decision capable of institutionalizing the culture of silence.

Impunity is corrupting our dream for justice, equity, and fairness. But each time we speak about the dereliction of the Criminal Justice System, not everyone holds the Judiciary to account as much as they do the @PoliceNG. Let me update you on Busola Dakolo V. Biodun Fatoyinbo...
Recall that the matter was set for the hearing of the defendant’s (Fatoyinbo’s team) Notice of Preliminary Objection on 16th October 2019. I’m still in shock about how the case file went missing in court at the last adjourned date. Do they think they can kill this matter?! 🤔
The Busola Dakolo matter did come up on Wednesday, the 16th day of October 2019 before the presiding Judge, His Lordship Honourable Justice A. O. Musa & the matter was called by the Court’s Clerk, there was a shocking drama in the court as the case file was not before the Court.

So we’re dealing with a serial rapist as postulated earlier. These are people who knew when this trait started having raped a village of girls years back. May the wrath of God Fall upon all the enablers & those being bought on this case. #EndRapeCulture #ilorinInterview @ARISEtv
I’ve always told myself that regardless of what my hands find to do, if it doesn’t go well with my conscience it must be truncates effective immediately regardless of what I stand to profit. We must always ask ourselves why we are doing what we are doing. Money is not everything.
There are many expired professionals without a soul out there. They have been so commercialized they’ve forgotten the greater good they ought to bring to the society they live and raise children in. We tell the truth not because of what the judge would do but because it heals.

His Krestellency’s first attempt was to influence the judge that will preside over the Dakolo suit but failed at bribing the court registrar to do his bidding. Now they have filed to dismiss the case demanding damages of N50m. Meanwhile a new petition is out there. @PoliceNG Act!
The principalities and powers enabling this fellow have assured him he owns the criminal justice system and can buy or intimidate anyone to do his bidding but they are in for a shocker of their lives. God is still on the throne. Our action will speak louder than their lies. #SGBV
Police should act on the new petition please. You have enough evidence. 👉🏽thenigerianvoice.com/amp/news/28161…

We appeal to the general public to temper the tantrums, while we appreciate the support for the advocacy against Rape. This is clearly not about the church or their members. It is about a crime against the state. It is about every young girl out there. #EndRapeCulture
Having said this, we implore that the #CorporateAffairsCommission look into the incorporated trustee registered as #COZA, they can’t keep running with a member of the BOT at helm of the church, having a litany of accusations from 2002 till date. It is disturbing. #EndRapeCulture
It is essential that the BOT for the sake of the parishioners and the incorporated trustee (church) grant Pastor Abiodun Fatoyinbo and indefinite administrative leave to attend to the allegations levied against him and several others to come. This is not a Coza problem.
