you may have developed some medical conditions, let your doctor know incase there is need to modify drugs.
There is increased risk of hypertension and diabetes in pregnancy, miscarriages, preterm labour etc

Please your antenatal care should be with a specialist who can anticipate and prevent complications from happening to you in the pregnancy

ABUSE OF OVULATION INDUCTION DRUGS

I've met a lot of women self-.medicate these drugs without knowing the state of their ovaries or if its the best option they are using

Not all fertility issues need ovulation stimulation, some are simply from wrong timing
#fertilityfriday
These drugs can cause Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome; too many eggs grow & can even lead to life threatening complications.

Too many eggs can become too many babies; saw a lady that had 5 babies in womb unfortunately she lost them all
@aproko_doctor
It may not work for you; some of these drugs have effect on lining of womb that may prevent pregnancy when misused.

Remember just because it worked for your friend doesn't mean that is what you need

If you have delay, see a specialist to diagnose & treat under guidance

FIBROIDS & FERTILITY

Fibroid can affect fertility by affecting your sexual health, by it's location or from it's treatment

Fibroid in Sexual health

Irregular/prolonged bleeding can interfere with sexual intercourse.
It makes it hard to estimate fertile window
#ATHREAD Image
Painful sex from fibroids can reduce sexual frequency

Recurrent blood loss can cause anaemia which can make the woman tire easily & sickly

Going to hospital for pain, blood transfusion, heavy bleeding, stress etc can lead to loss of libido in both partners
@aproko_doctor Image
Fibroid Location

Can block the path of sperm/egg/ formed embryo preventing fertilisation & pregnancy

Can make distance sperms have to travel longer

Can disturb the lining of the womb preventing successful pregnancy

Can make the womb hostile for successful pregnancy

HEAT & SPERM

Are you OVER HEATING your FACTORY?

Nature put the testes outside the body in the scrotum because sperm production requires lower temperature than the body.

Sperm production occurs at around (34ºC) which is (2.5-3ºC) below normal body temperature
@aproko_doctor Image
You may be increasing the temperature in the testes by

1. Wearing tight underwear/shorts for a prolonged period

2. Staying long in a hot tub

3. Sitting for too long

4. Frequently putting laptop on your thighs instead of desk for prolonged period in certain positions.
etc Image
This can increase the temperature to about (35ºC) or more.

The effect of overheating may includes
Poor sperm production
DNA damage
Low sperm count
Poor movement which can reduce the ability of sperm to reach an egg to ferlitize it

Let the sperm stay COOL

GETTING PREGNANT NATURALLY

Generally 15 - 25% of couples  achieve pregnancy in 1 month/cycle

& about 85% will achieve pregnancy in 1 year

i.e if 100 couples are trying, 15 -25 of them will achieve pregnancy naturally in 1month

& 85 of 100 couples will achieve this in a year Image
The chances of natural conception is influenced by a woman’s age

Age: 20-29years                                Pregnancy rate/cycle: 20-25%
Pregnancy rate/year: 92-96%

Age: 30-35 years
Pregnancy rate/cycle:15-20%
Pregnancy rate/year: 85%

This is important for new couples!
For couples who become anxious after 1-2 months of trying, look at what can happen naturally within a year☝️

However,if either of you have known medical conditions that may affect your ability to achieve pregnancy,

Speak to your doctor early

Delay in achieving pregnancy

Is the challenge from the man or woman?

WOMEN
Some female factors that can cause delay

1. Ovulation issues; PCOS, ovarian failure, elevated prolactin levels, thyroid, stress & this may show in her menses pattern

ATHREAD Image
2. Age- time & biology, as women get older, number & quality of eggs reduces.

3. Problems with tubes- damaged or blocked- common here from PID due to gonorrhea/ chlamydia which is poorly treated

4. Problems with womb
from infection to unsafe abortions damaging the lining.
5. Endometriosis- a whole topic for another day

6. Extremes of weight(big/small)

Egg carries XX and doesn’t determine sex of a baby
