James M. Inhofe National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2023 (NDAA)

Some of my favorite sections, starting with IndoPacific issues:
2/ #FY23NDAA #S4543:
Sec 1072
SecDef "shall develop a Joint Concept for Competing" to "define the role of the US Armed Forces in long-term strategic competition with specific adversaries"

Good to get this concept less squishy.

So far, 1,213 amendments have been filed to the #FY23NDAA ahead of this week's House floor debate. I suspect that figure is a record.

Hundreds of amendments will be made in order. (It was 476 last year out of 860 filed.)

Quick 🧵 on some notable amendments...
TOPLINE: Progressives Barbara Lee and Mark Pocan have a pair of amendments to slash the NDAA’s price tag.

The first reverses a $37B increase approved by House Armed Services. It would revert the bill back to Biden’s DoD topline. amendments-rules.house.gov/amendments/LEE…
Lee and Pocan’s second amendment *cuts $100B* from the current FY22 level of DoD spending, minus personnel and health accounts. amendments-rules.house.gov/amendments/LEE…

Both of these will likely fail easily. But just reversing HASC’s plus up should find more support among Dems.
