Reflecting on two tweets after reading #Spare. I can't recall who said it, but the first is one that said something to the effect of "write your truth and don't worry about making people look bad. If they wanted to be remembered well they should have behaved better"
The second is from Chrissy Stroop who reminded us that institutions will protect themselves at the expense of those who inhabit them.

The monarchy is an institution that creates and exacerbates family conflicts.
I liked the book. It's a peek behind the curtain and reveals the things we kind of knew. They're all sad, angry people. The Firm. The press. All hanging on to whatever legitimacy they can by throwing each other to the wolves via palace sources, maintaining a fake innocence

The breathless news coverage on Harry and Meghan has made #IranianProtesters look like extras in a B movie.

But while the semi-Royal couple has ‘spared’ us no details, Iranians’ abductions, torture and hangings by the #IR go largely unreported.

This has huge ramifications:
1. It signals the fickleness of American foreign policy, and worse, American leadership. From Obama’s “unclench your fist” to Trump’s “maximum pressure” to Biden’s aloofness on ME, our Iran policy looks like disconnected movies in a potentially promising sequel.
2. Underreporting the #IranRevoIution also gives the appearance that the regime’s unspeakable brutality has been successful in deterring/scaring Iranians into submission.

In fact, the opposite has become true.

I'm not particularly invested in #HarryandMegan but I find myself defending them often because of the other topics raised by people's responses to their story in which I am invested, such as misogyny, patriarchy, racism, classism & bullying. I shall thread at my leisure... 1/?
Disclaimer: When I say bullying, I don't mean "fun shade" like reading the Real Housewives', reacting to the big game, or silly gossip about pop culture. Celebs kind of sign up for that. I mean accounts that exist solely to rage Tweet over #MeganMarkle's every move. 2/?
I'm not part of #SussexSquad, haven't read Omid Scobie's book, listened to Archetypes, or watched all of #HarryandMeghanNetflix. I will, however, read Harry's book because I like memoirs & autobiographies. (I'm currently reading Bono's 'Surrender'. Highly recommended!) 3/? Image
