AIDS is an injustice because today we have tools for prevention, testing & treatement. But last year we had 1.5 million people were newly infected with HIV, and AIDS took 650,000 lives. When you peel that and see who is dying, you see that #inequalites are at the root. #Equalize
In 🇺🇸 Black people are 8.5x more likely to be infected with HIV than white people. Black gay men in US face 1 in 2 risk of contracting HIV across their lifetime. This is a higher risk than the average in 🇺🇬 and almost as high as in hot spot countries like 🇿🇦.

Countries w/highest HIV rates are struggling to pay debt, squeezing out expenditures on health & education. In the midst of COVID, when rich countries put $17TR into recovery, dev'ing countries were continuing to make debt repayments 4X their health budgets. This is an injustice! Image

lot of people ask abt what helped me in this weight loss & fitness journey, how difficult was it & how do I keep myself motivated to be at it. A thread on it (1/10) #health #Health4All #fitnessmotivation #HealthyLiving @SandeepMall @IamShajanSamuel @SaravananOrg @drrajatchauhan
find your trigger - to me motivation to change has to come from within. you can get inspired by others but the trigger to start your own journey cannot come from them - my trigger was when i was unable to keep pace with my 4 year old daughter while playing with her :) (2/10)
look for your guide - once you have your trigger, next thing is to look for someone who can guide you as u get started - to me that guide/mentor was @SaravananOrg and his team at @AmuraHealth - they simplified the puzzle around weight loss for me! (3/10)

1/ #WorldHealthDay is also a good day to reflect on the opportunities that many India's health challenges bring. In this thread, we summarise some.
First, investing more in health and recognizing disease prevention and health promotion should be the topmost priority.
2/ Currently, India has one of the lowest allocations to health among all countries of the world as percentage of GDP.
#HealthExpense
3/ As a result of such a low investment in health and due to high out-of-pocket expenditure (85.6% according to the @WorldBank) millions of people are pushed further into poverty and are unable to escape.

(1/9) I was unable to share my thoughts on #HLMUHC #UNGA on day of, but will do so with tweetorial below & my @nytimes commentary "Reversal in Health Coverage": nytimes.com/2019/09/24/opi…

I also want to thank everyone for warm words of support: my mother is doing better day by day.
(2/9) It’s been a landmark event as #HLMUHC moved mountains with political attention for #Health4All #UHC and the adoption of the Political Declaration. As per my op-ed for @ghn_news, reduced financial commitment but inclusion of #SurgeryUHC now apparent:

(3/9) Major congratulations for the important #ChildHealth event by @Smiletrain et al.: “quality surgical care is a driver & outcome of development” #SurgeryUHC

1.7 BILLION CHILDREN live without access to surgery. #UNGA #UNGA74, what about that future? qz.com/1674518/theres…
