Menopause can result in a decline in hormone levels, including testosterone, which is essential for various aspects of a woman's health. Here are some natural ways a menopausal woman can increase her testosterone levels: #menopause #testosterone
Exercise & physical activity: Regular exercise, particularly strength training & high-intensity interval training (HIIT), have shown to raise testosterone levels. Incorporate a mix of cardio & resistance training exercises into your routine to help maintain healthy hormone levels
A nutrient-rich diet is essential for hormonal balance: Include both lean & fatty meat, eggs & fish, fats (like those found in avocados, ghee, lard, tallow & olive oil). Specific foods, such as cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, & cabbage), support hormone production.

"What I’ve personally not heard mentioned as much, is the crippling anxiety you can get with the peri menopause...A kind of irrational anxiety that makes no sense whatsoever! You feel like you’ve lost your own damn mind!" Martine McCutcheon
uk.style.yahoo.com/martine-mccutc…
Anxiety, out of the blue, was one of the hardest impacts of perimenoapuse for me.

I've had bouts of depression when I was younger, but never anxiety.

So I'm always grateful when celebrities and actors with platforms like Martine share their experience.

"Out of 20yrs of literature regarding menopause symptoms, only 17 academic papers explore how this condition affects Black women, according to Dr. Makeba Williams, a Washington University physician who specializes in OB/GYN w/ expertise in menopause care." ksdk.com/article/news/l…
“I think what was really striking is that we know that for some of the more bothersome symptoms and complaints that are often expressed, hot flashes and night sweats, Black women experience them longer,” Dr. Williams said.
#Menopause
The average duration or median duration for these symptoms is about 10yrs versus White women who experience them 6.5yrs, according to the OB/GYN doctor.

“In addition to having a longer duration, there's a higher prevalence, so about an 80% prevalence amongst Black women."

I started am now in #perimenopause after losing both my ovaries to #Endometriosis

There is nothing that breaks me more than the thought of not being able to conceive and carry a child of my own in my uterus 👶🏽

This🧵is about navigating the new season which is a neglected topic
Our ovaries produce eggs for fertilization and also make the hormones (estrogen and progesterone) that play an important role in reproductive development and menstruation.

If, like me, you lose your ovaries early it increases our risk of osteoporosis and heart disease.
I now appreciate the role my ovaries played in contributing to the good quality of life. I didn’t have to worry about mood changes, vaginal and bladder problems, sexual function, fertility, hot flashes, sleep problems etc.

Haven't read whole article yet but THIS:

“…most OB/GYN residents get about one to two hours of instruction on menopause care and, when surveyed, said that they did not feel comfortable managing menopause upon completion of their programs.” nytimes.com/2022/12/20/sty… h/t @rerutled
At my last visit my OB/GYN she asked me if a younger doctor, I'm assuming one who wanted to specialize in OB/GYN, could sit in on our time together.

I enthusiastically said yes because I had inkling that the younger doctor rarely saw perimenopausal people like me.

I went in because I knew my M Day--Menopause is actually just that one day that marks 12 months since your last period--was soon approaching and there were things I wanted to discuss with my doctor for the years ahead.

It was one of the longest visits I've had with my doctor.

Menopause is shit. Menopause is amazing.

#WomensHealthcare needs serious attention, specifically patient comfort. There are procedures that the patient is given no anesthesia for that are down right medieval. For example, lets visit something called an endometrial biopsy, a procedure that detects uterine cancer… 1
1You will be asked to undress fully or from the waist down and put on a hospital gown.
2You will be told to empty your bladder before the procedure.
3You will lie on an exam table, with your feet and legs supported as for a pelvic exam…
4. Your healthcare provider will insert an instrument called a speculum into your vagina to spread the walls of the vagina apart to view the cervix.
5. Your provider will clean your cervix with an antiseptic solution….

I found out almost by chance that perimenopause–the time leading up to menopause–could last up to 14 yrs. At first, I thought “Are you fucking kidding me?” And that quickly turned to “How the hell did I not know that?” How was a feminist like me so ignorant about menopause?

I have been eager to get here, to #Postmenopause finally!

The past five years of #Perimenopause were some of the most difficult of my life.

When they say the #Menopause transition is like puberty in reverse, it is no lie.
I remember how overwhelmed by it all 11.5yo me was when I first got my period--the physical changes, yes, and also just as hard the emotional and mental changes.

When I was 13 and then when I was 16, I had my first experiences of depression. They were difficult years.

When the final results of the U.S. #MidtermElection are in, let's see how many women governors, senators, representative etc are at the age of the #menopause transition and how many talk about it publicly in the way only Nicola Sturgeon so far has.
For many reasons, cis women reach pinnacles of political power as they enter midlife–age requirements of certain political positions, children (if they have them) have grown, or simply because it takes years to accrue power and to make it up that ladder.

#Menopause #Midterms
And it is at that moment, in midlife as they accrue the most political power, that cis women also go through the menopause transition.

Rebuilding a career after a late in life autism diagnosis.
Personal reflections of a very late discovered #ActuallyAutistic person, 4 years on.
1/
Burnout was a factor in me finally finding out I was autistic.
I’d become overwhelmed and exhausted.
I’d drifted to a halt, and then couldn’t get going again.
I was overloaded by being bullied at work, being in perimenopause, unresolved trauma and my partner’s serious illness.
2/
A demanding new job immediately after my diagnosis didn’t kickstart recovery from burnout like it would have done previously.
What the psychologist had told me about taking ‘baby steps’ was true, even though I didn’t want it to be.
I finally realised I couldn’t afford not to.

“There's an upside to this stage in life where menopause can reduce women’s confidence but I think getting to this stage gives you another kind of confidence…F it a little bit & say what you think & who cares what other people think...There's a liberating element to all of this”
The above quote is from First Minister of Scotland Nicola Sturgeon. She is not the first woman to lead a country, but it is telling that she is the only one who has spoken publicly about her menopause transition feministgiant.com/p/essay-the-po…
Because other than Sturgeon and Danish TV series Borgen’s Birgitte Nyborg, you would think that being elected into office rendered female political leaders immune from a life transition that affects everyone who has ever had a uterus. #menopause
