With news that Dutton will run uncontested for leadership, I would like to say a word or two about conservatism. There was much talk this election of the Liberal Party becoming more “conservative” as it veers to the right, but I disagree. Conservatism is about: 1/
FAMILY, COMMUNITY and NATION, along with the INSTITUTIONS that hold these together. The Libs have shown disdain for all of these. We see their contempt for the FAMILY unit in their handling of the Biloela Family, refusing to give a child the same visa as her parents. 2/
Their disdain for COMMUNITY can be seen in every Teal seat. The number of LNP candidates that refused to attend local voter’s forums, the dirty attacks on candidates and volunteers, and their failure to listen shows that the party sees itself above communities. 3/

A thread about the beginning of how I situate my small part in the @Mon4Kooyong vs JoshFry story. Reader, it ends well...💎🌊 (Please indulge me this 🧵as a born and bred Kooyong person, even though I'm not there now.)❤️ #KooyongRising #KooyongVotes #Mon4Kooyong 🧵cont...
I sent Mr Frydenberg an email 11/10/21🧵"Mr Frydenberg, You have just made comments about NSW ‘showing others the way to live with the virus’. For you to stand & say that it would be good to see Vict experiencing the same freedoms as NSW, at the same time, is an insult." cont...
Cont: "Your government failed to secure sufficient vaccines early enough. (Please refute this if you can.) There would not be such lengthy lockdowns & so many Covid deaths if your govt had done its job (feel free to refute this if there is any way you can.)"

Josh. A thread

It’s hard to pinpoint the moment I became certain that Josh Frydenberg is not a man I want in our Parliament.

What I know is that I'm one of nearly 3,000 volunteers for @Mon4Kooyong, about 80% of who are volunteering like this for the 1st time.

During the first significant lockdown, I remember Josh using every opportunity he could to politicise Covid, and act in defiance of the health advice.

In our lowest moments, we needed support, but Josh prioritised his own political ambitions before Victorians.

2/15
In Vic's first outbreak when we were pursuing Covid Zero, all borders were closed to us, and there was no vaccine. We had to get to zero.

Despite having no choice, Josh continued to undermine the expert advice and kick, kick and kick us some more.

Robert Menzies’ daughter spoke out today & caused me to seek out his famous “forgotten people” speech which reads like it was written about the people of Kooyong (because it probably was), but truer than ever in this day and age.
(Cont)
2/
Menzies’ famous “forgotten people” ARE the people of Kooyong - middle class, unorganised, taken for granted by politicians, not rich enough to have individual power, who see their children as a great contribution to the nation, truly the backbone of the country.

Sir Robert Menzies would like & respect Dr Monique Ryan. He says
“greatest element in strong people is a fierce independence of spirit” & “brave acceptance of individual responsibility”. Dr Ryan’s decision to step forward in time of need is personification of his concept

We woke up this morning and our beautiful mural (left) had been painted over (right).

Imagine being the painter sent to whitewash over “Active Hope”!

#ActiveHope #Mon4Kooyong #KooyongVotes #ausvotes
The mural comprised 4 panels, one designed by long-term Kew resident W.H. Chong, the remainder by renowned Melbourne designer Georgia Perry. The mural was painted by Wall Lords, a local arts group.

Left: statements from W.H. Chong and Wall Lords
Right: Jess from Wall Lords
Our political opponents are accusing us of vandalism(!), but the story is much more complex than that.

Something happened between Tuesday and Friday, and we’re hoping to get to the bottom of it ASAP.

We have been subjected to so many dirty tricks!

I’m sitting in Matilda Mont Albert just now and overhead two guys discussing the election.

🧵

One guy says to the other “…so there’s an independent running against Josh. She’s a paediatric neurologist, Dr Monique Ryan.
Her campaign has a door knocking team, but get this — SHE actually knocked on my door. She came with her son and we had a 20 minute conversation talking about issues that are important to my family. She’s really smart and actually has a climate policy.
She’s given me 20 minutes of her time, so after that I donated 10 bucks to her campaign and put up a sign in my front yard. Josh is visiting the girls’ school later this week and my daughter says to me, dad, can I tell him we’re not voting for him?”
