Yesterday we published an update of our research on inequality and learning loss of Dutch primary school children after 2.5 years of COVID-19 pandemic based on the #NCO-project (Netherlands Cohort Study on Education) from @hetNRO. A thread with our findings 1/20馃憞 Image
Based on ~850k primary school students from 卤2400 schools (卤40% of total) we analysed standardized tests on reading, spelling and maths that were written right before COVID-19 started (Feb 2020), and since then in Feb and June of 2021 and 2022. 2/20
We compare the learning gain in the COVID-year with a similar time period in the years before. We study learning gain over the full period of 2.5 years and we compare the first (June20-june21) and the second schoolyear of COVID-19 (June21-June22) with each other. 3/20

On February 6th 1987, I paid a family debt. I chose to spend my conscription period in the #carabinieri . The reason was simple. My namesake grandfather was one of five male sons in a poor family in the boondocks. 3 brothers emigrated to Argentina.(2/11)
One, Vittorio, inherited the meager farm. My grandfather applied to the Carabinieri.
They taught him to read and write. He attended one of the first #NCO courses and was promoted... in time for WW II. He told my father very little of his experience then.(3/11)
