The #FreedomToVoteAct would do all of these things, plus require that all in person voters have the option to mark their ballots by hand with a pen. #HandMarkedPaperBallots #PenAndPaper 1/ congress.gov/bill/117th-con…
The #FreedomToVoteAct’s provisions for automatic & same day voter registration are also crucial to election security bc voter registration systems & electronic poll books (used at the polls to confirm voter registrations) are very vulnerable to hacking! 2/ politico.com/news/2020/08/3…

Am I reading backwards? Ocean County NJ GOP & Democrats fight over voting machines - The Rs want to buy from Dominion & the Ds want to buy from ES&S.

It does not appear that either wants #PenAndPaper. They want machines to mark the “paper ballots”. 😳 1/ app.com/story/news/loc…
2/ My piece re: concerns with ES&S. link.medium.com/TVavGrswXib
3/ IMO, no matter what vendor supplies them, ballot marking devices (touchscreens that mark your paper ballot for you), as opposed to #PenAndPaper, are asking for trouble. I’ve been warning about them for years. Here’s my YouTube PSA.

A related concern is that QAnon nuts or enablers might use the illegally leaked data to hack BMDs (touchscreen voting machines) in California to make it look like Gavin Newsom & Dominion rigged the recall. How many reports of vote flipping wld it take to trigger a civil war? 1/
2/ We should not use BMDs for most in person voters. Even if someone thinks voters wld notice any vote flipping on the printouts, there is still the concern that this flipping cld be done on purpose to create suspicion about a legitimate result. CA shld go back to #PenAndPaper.

Weird how TFG and the GOP didn't scream about "election integrity" after Russian hackers probed Georgia websites in 2016. They WANTED to continue using paperless (unauditable) voting machines. This changed only bc a federal court forced them to change. 1/
The federal court's ruling was made in a case brought by @CoalitionGoodGv and others. But although Georgia Republicans moved to "paper," even then, they had to leave room for manipulation by rejecting #PenAndPaper in favor of touchscreens that mark your "paper ballot" for you..2/
... w/ a barcode and text. A recent study showed that, if the machine omits or changes the voter's intended selection as shown in the text on the paper, voters will notice only 7% of the time, which is especially a problem DOWN BALLOT. 3/

In Shelby County, TN, the GOP-led election commission is at war with the Dem-led funding commission over whether to move to #PenAndPaper (exception 4 voters w/ disabilities) or to buy new ES&S touchscreens to mark voters’ “paper ballots” for them. 1/ memphisflyer.com/commission-vs-…
The Republican-led election commission is determined to buy ES&S touchscreens, ignoring that the current ES&S/Diebold touchscreens were shown to have deleted votes from predominantly black precincts in 2015, as reported in Bloomberg. 2/ bloomberg.com/features/2016-…
It was @benniejsmith who discovered the vanishing black votes from ES&S/Diebold touchscreens in Shelby County, TN. He figured it out by comparing the precinct totals to the reported totals. I interviewed Bennie, who is now an election commissioner, last year. 3/

Warning. Election insiders construe these phrases 2 include controversial touchscreens that mark paper 4 u:

* “voter marked paper ballots”
* “voter verifiable paper ballots”
* “voter verified paper ballots”
* “paper ballots”

If we want #PenAndPaper, we must say #PenAndPaper 1/
Alternatively, you can get what you want by including the phrase “hand marked” before the phrase “paper ballots.” #HandMarkedPaperBallots. But I find that this confuses people who then reply “Yes! Paper ballots!” Which of course can now mean touchscreens. 2/
It has been a messaging nightmare. I find #PenAndPaper works better. So that’s what I usually say now. #PenAndPaper (with an exception for voters with disabilities). 3/

Told ya. One outcome of the disinformation campaign will be to give America’s largest election vendor, ES&S, even more corrupt control than it already has. But ES&S is the company that had the real election-security scandal in 2020. It just happened behind closed doors. 1/
My new piece for @whowhatwhy. ES&S conducts its own hash testing. This is a big problem bc hash testing is the crucial process that customers are supposed to use to confirm that ES&S has provided them w/ certified software as opposed to God Knows What. 2/ whowhatwhy.org/2021/03/08/ele…
Not only that. ES&S has used an uncertified method to install software in up to 19 states. Software installed w/ this method failed hash testing. When Texas examiners started asking questions, ES&S misrepresented the situation. 3/

😳ES&S’s ExpressVote voting system reportedly has an integrated zebra technologies barcode reader whose “operation can be modified by scanning configuration barcodes,” which can “reconfigure which types of barcodes the scanner reads,” & “how it reads...&..processes them.” 1/
2/ “They could cause the barcode scanner to stop tabulating ExpressVote barcodes or to tabulate them incorrectly. They can even be used to allow sending unintended data & keyboard commands to the voting system.”
3/ “A set of carefully constructed keyboard commands could be used to manipulate the voting system software.”
