Based on chatter amongst maritime community, Suez Canal Authority- sis.gov.eg is gonna blame Indian crew & make them scapegoat. But @MEAIndia , seafarers union & int’l maritime org is on the side of ship. BTW how many know Suez Canal is also called Marlboro canal .. 
Thanks to the practise of facilitation payments paid by ships, Suez canal is also known as ‘ Marlboro canal’. It is well known amongst circles as to how Egyptian pilots & authorities insist on cartons of cigarettes / money from Capt as a guarantee for safe canal transit

2/ The ships are massive at nearly 400 meters/1,300 feet in length. They are nearly 40M/200FT wide and draw about 14.5M/47.5FT.
3/ These ships carry modular containers. The first container ship - SS Ideal X in 1956 carried 58 boxes. The newest can carry 24,000.
The leap in size has not been linear but exponential. As ships increase in length, beam, and depth, their volume is cubed, hence Ultra-Large.

Ever Given, operated by the Taiwanese company Evergreen Marine, is a 400m-long (approx.1,300 ft), 200,000-tonne vessel. It ran aground on Tuesday morning (March 23) amid high winds and a sandstorm that affected visibility. (2/n)
The Ever Given can carry more than 20,100 steel boxes, making it one of the largest container ships. These ships are longer than the Eiffel tower and bigger than three soccer fields. (3/n)

Es wird nicht selten mit einem Wolkenkratzer verglichen.

49 Meter breit.
Durch eine Verkettung von Pannen hat sich das Schiff jetzt quer im #Suez -Kanal gestellt.

Seit mehreren Tagen steht nun die Schifffahrt im #Suezkanal still.
Alle Versuche, das Schiff mit Schleppern wieder umzudrehen, scheiterten bislang.
Eines der Probleme ist, dass das Schiff sich mit dem Bug in eine der Kanalwände praktisch hineingebohrt hat.
