Well hello #traintwitter. Nice feed you’ve got there. Be a shame if someone filled it with six days of Interrail adventures in search of… (hasthtag drumroll) #GroundLevelAalto 🇫🇮

The journey starts today. 🥳 Image
#GroundLevelAalto is the Twitter story of the week-long field trip of a new summer course I’m delivering at Umeå University. It’s a 7.5ECTS course studying the work of Alvar, Aino Elissa Aalto in Finland. Over six days we visit six major buildings, and we travel at ground level.
The journey begins at the Port of Holmsund, and the Wasa Line ferry terminal. We sail with the new M/V Aurora Botnia, launched 2021. Image

In Tokyo, Tobu Railways (on the Tojo Line, serving a million passengers daily) are running a 2nd trial where they pick-up unsold fresh vegetables from a rural wholesale center and bring it to central Tokyo's Ikebukuro station for direct sale to consumers. #TrainTwitter
Vegetables picked from the field at 06:00 arrive at Ikebukuro sta. by 17:49, the stall opens at 18:00 and 18:30 everything has sold out. Prices are slightly lower than usual, and being able to shop right at the ticket gate saves consumers a trip to the super-market. #TrainTwitter
At the same time, Keikyu's Kurihama Line is running a trial to use off-peak time train space to transport fresh vegetables direct from farmers to consumers in Yokohama. Leaving Misakiguchi Station (which is the center of the farm rich Miura Peninsula) at 10:26, for Kamiooka Sta.

Me: Yes it's more #InternationalDogDay #TrainTwitter crossover content! Several railway stations had trained "Canine Collector" charity dogs, inc Laddie at Waterloo & Jim at Slough. Laddie is now stuffed at @RailwayMuseum; Jim is stuffed at Slough

Here are some more reported facts about "Station Jim", the very old dead dog that is now stuffed and mounted on a Slough station platform. #internationaldogday #ohgodthehashtags #thisislikeinstagram #dogs #deaddogs #idontevenlikedogswhyamitweetingthis getreading.co.uk/news/reading-b…
Unfortunately Laddie in @RailwayMuseum often bloats out into a horrific shape, terrifying children, as trapped gas (from a life of overfeeding by idiots) expands. To prevent canine cadaver explosion, NRM conservators are seen here on their biannual Laddie-gas-extraction duty. Image

Right! I am watching the second half of #BuildingTheChannelTunnel whilst I eat my tea... The first half was great, so I'm looking forward to it!
We're straight back into the thick of it... Though we've also jumped back in time again #BuildingTheChannelTunnel
We're barely five minutes in and there's some strong graphics action going on (the tunnel is getting soggy) #BuildingTheChannelTunnel

Passenger railway in Kamakura, Japan. These rails are called Type 37kg (a finer and high quality type of rail), and come in lengths of 25m. A length of new rail costs about $920 and the complete line uses about 808 of them. The line is the famous Enoden.
A lenght of straight rail lasts 30 years and a curved one 10 years. When they are exchanged they are left by the rail as in this photo, to be picked up once a year all at the same time. They are sold as scrap iron generating about $200/piece. Some're sold as tourist souvenirs.
Don't say I don't ever teach you guys anything! #TrainTwitter

Shimonada Station in Japan's island bound Ehime prefecture is often viewed as having the most beautiful view among all railway stations in the country. 下灘駅、愛媛県伊予市双海町大久保。#TrainTwitter
Many tourists make the long trip from Tokyo just in order to spend a little time here. Shimonada station is on the Yosan Line, the principal railway on the island (予讃線).
Shimonada Station has a certain underdeveloped charm for sure. Opened in 1935 it sees about 60 passengers daily.
