Just going to say that if @WASenDemocrats & @WAHouseDems let public ed suffer & decline thanks to a lack of action by #waleg - and as a direct result of actions BY #waleg via #McCleary - they won't be a majority for much longer. Look at AZ, TX, UT, ID as examples. #waedu
#waleg CAUSED the problem in public ed. YOU need to fix it. I'm sure as hell not going to be out knocking on doors & calling potential voters & sign waving like I've done before for anyone in @WAHouseDems or @WaSenate otherwise. Besides, I'll be too busy with my supersized class.
Let's look at a some of the issues #waleg caused with its #McCleary "fix". Start with the staff salary mix. Here's how that impacts Ellensburg.

Supt. Reykdal has made the determination that WA students will not be taking the Smarter Balanced Assessments or the WA Comprehensive Assessment of Science this spring. Instead, these testing windows will be moved to the fall. More here: medium.com/chris-reykdal/… #WAedu
State testing this spring will not support students’ mental health & isn't the best use of limited remaining in-person time this year. Tests would yield inequitable access for remote learners, a large number of students opting out, & results wouldn't be reliable or actionable.
OSPI has already entered a planning process to explore reducing the length of our state tests in the fall and beyond, innovative testing options, & a review of laws that will need to be changed to transform our assessment system into one that better meets our needs.

First few statements seem to be in response to pushback about how much live instruction time is included in the example schedules.

"I’ve heard over and over and over again that families want more live learning."
Juneau stressed the schedules are just examples. And if the screen time seems excessive, she said people should call the State Board of Education and State Ed department and ask for more flexibility in how many instructional hours that school district provide

This week, I had the privilege of writing the obituary for Cora Jean Howard, a longtime Seattle schools teacher who died from the coronavirus at 77 years old. I want to expand on some details of her story here.

She was born Cora Jean Smith on Dec. 20, 1942, in Lufkin, Texas. She met her best friend and childhood sweetheart, Theodore Howard, at school. Their relationship blossomed from awkward hellos in the hallways to walking home with together almost every day.
She and Theodore were young when they got married at a baptist church in town. It was two years after Cora graduated high school, in 1963. As they built their lives together, eventually moving to Seattle's Central Area, they had 7 children and 17 grandchildren.

It’s official: Congrats to Sen. Andy Billig (D-Spokane), the new Senate Majority Leader in the Washington State Legislature! #waleg #PuttingPeopleFirst sdc.wastateleg.org/blog/2018/11/1…
Billig takes over from Sen. Sharon Nelson (D-Maury Island), who has led Democrats in the state Senate since 2013. Thank you for your strong leadership, Sen. Nelson! #waleg
Billig is a leading voice on campaign finance reform. Earlier this year, he sponsored and passed the DISCLOSE Act, which exposes the source of hidden contributions in campaigns and closes campaign finance disclosure loopholes. #AccessToDemocracy spokesman.com/stories/2018/m…
