The video clip here👇which's released by Walta TV (one of the Ethiopian regime's prop machines) shows a compilation of combat scenes by the Ethiopian genocidal troops during the #WarOnTigray.
From phone calls with our families and friends, and countless reports, we have heard that Ethiopian and Eritrean troops shelled villages and towns indiscriminately without any clear target and without any evidence of the presence of Tigray Defence Forces in the areas they shelled
The video here confirms these reports and rumors. Throughout the video, there is not a single sight of an "enemy" weapon or a soldier. The only things visible in the areas they targeted are few farmhouses. In central Tigray, where I come from,

What caused the #WarOnTigray, according to @AbiyAhmedAli.

"If this force [TPLF & Tigrayan political elites] had quietly joined the Prosperity Party, it could've remained in power with all the wealth that it stole and everything. The decision to not join the Prosperity Party,...
..has immensely costed it."

"Even when it went to Tigray, it could've quietly remained in power as a regional government. We wouldn't at least have fought it. [...]. What did it lose [due to the war]?. Each and every single mother of Tigray knows the cost of the war."
"They [the mothers of Tigray] know the damage."

Abiy Ahmed Ali.

There're about 1000 #Irob #IDPs in Mekelle & about 20,000 in Adigrat & Wurko. They’re farmers, most’ve never been this far away from their homes, they don’t know the system & language barriers added, most of them have been lost & remain helpless.1/ @UNOCHA @OCHA_Ethiopia @ICRC
They've been living on the shoulders of relatives for 8 months.A family is hosting 5-10 IDPs since the war, making the already bad situation for families worse b/s there's not enough space nor supply for all of them in a given family. 2/ @WFP_Ethiopia @EthioRedCross @CARE @USAID

Collective trauma of the #WarOnTigray on Tigrayan children:
The #WarOnTigray is perhaps one of the most under-reported and the bloodiest events in Africa in recent decades. Over 52,000 civilians have reportedly been killed as of last week,
washingtonpost.com/world/africa/t…
more than 60k crossed the border to Sudan for safety, over 4.5 million face starvation as their harvests are looted & destroyed by Ethiopian & Eritrean armies.
But, what is most distressing is the trauma that the war is leaving Tigrayan children with. As towns and villages across Tigray have constantly been bombed for the last 3 months, children have seen so much that will remain with them forever.

I was only 23 when I met Dr. Mulugeta Gebrehiwot (nom de guerre Mulugeta Chaltu) in #Mekelle. I was young, ambitious, full of energy, first year after graduating from #AddisAbabaUniversity. I was talking to him on how I could help with the selection of wastewater treatment 1/5

excellence) that it went with me to Bahir Dar, Addis Ababa, #Stockholm and now #Calgary. I still have it in my home office library here. I remember Chaltu as a very positive and encouraging gentleman. Fast forward 25 years, I am now at the foot of the Rocky Mountains of 3/5

After 64 days, I finally managed to talk to someone who travelled on foot for 3 days to reach #Mekelle from Rubagered, a village in central #Tigray where I grew up and where my parents live. Hearing a familiar voice over the phone gave me goosebumps.
What he told me about what's going on in our villages is heartbreaking. He told me that there's been at least 5 rounds of heavy fights & the invading #EritreanArmy still controlls the area.
In Rubagered, my home village, he confirmed that the #EritreanArmy killed 3 civilians; Birhane Gebru Weldemichel (my 60 year old farmer cousin), Teweldebirhan Weldekidan and Jemal Abdelkadir (a shopkeeper).

After the war broke out in #Tigray, many international media are reporting that more than 950,000 #Tigrayans are believed to be displaced. But what is the root cause of the ethnic Tigrayan migration across the borders? (1/9)
For over a few weeks now, we are collecting incredible facts from the relatives, eye witness, and testimonies on the ground to reflect exactly what happened. The #UN statement which was issued a few days ago reflects part of the concern. (2/9)
But in reality, it is clear that something serious has happened to these people from the western part of Tigray to cross the #Sudan border and save their lives. Sudan's border was opened over the previous years but nobody from Tigray, not at least in this magnitude, has (3/9)

2020 was an inconvenient year for the whole world but a very difficult one for my people in #Tigray. As I start my first day of 2021, I would like to put the following things out here.

1. After @AbiyAhmedAli declared a full-scale #WarOnTigray backed by the #Amhara (1/11)
militia and #Eritrean soldiers on the 4th of November 2020 after midnight, Hewan Hulet Shi was the first dearest #Ethiopian friend of mine who checked on me and the safety of my family back home at 00:53 AM through WhatsApp. Much love and respect to you Hewi ❤ . (2/11)
YeGetaneh Agegn Alemu, Dereje Tadesse, Gemechu Merera Fana, and Eyob Mihreteab Yohannes are also my other dear Ethiopian friends who have been continuously checking on me and asking about the safety of my relatives. Thank you ALL. (3/11)

#Eritrea has been a pariah state for its conflict with all its neighbors and went through more than a decade long sanction that have started in #IGAD #AU & by #UNSC for its role of destabilizing the region; direct involvement in arms and contraband trading; &supporting #Al-Shabab
.@AbiyAhmedAli, nominated and subsequently appointed as PM by the “late” ruling coalition EPRDF, on 2 April 2018; following the four years of street protests, that multiple report had been indicating the involvement of foreign forces, including #Eritrea.
Immediately Abiy initiated rapprochement with #Eritrea. To the surprise of everyone, despite Eritrea’s consistent position of handing over the disputed territories before initiating any normalization for almost 2 decades, agreed to the normalization without any pre-condition.

PEOPLE ARE DYING IN #TIGRAY: #HumanitarianReliefNow
A Thread

It’s almost 2 months since #WarOnTigray was waged. Since then, much of #Tigray has been under a complete blockade of all life supporting services, including medicine, food, & access to cash. 1/17
It’s also almost a month into an agreement for ‘unimpeded’ humanitarian access to #Tigray the #AbiyAhmed regime signed with the @UN. Yet, even a needs assessment is not conducted to date. 2/17

news.un.org/en/story/2020/…
In the meantime, people are actually dying of hunger in #Tigray. These past 2 days, I had calls with some people that made it to #Mekelle from Wukro, Edagahamus, Abi-Adi & Hagereselam and environs. The stories are similar and harrowing. Words cannot express the desperation. 3/17

Connecting the dots as @sec_council continues to dither on the #WarOnTigray:

1/9 The 'hidden' war on #Tigray is active as well as the atrocities on #Tigray.
@reda_getachew also provided some insight from the ground.
2/9 On top of all the weaponry, #Ethiopia is engaged in the mass starvation of the people of #Tigray. This is a war crime that warrants an immediate @UN intervention.
ohchr.org/EN/NewsEvents/…
3/9 The failure to enforce international rules has given Abiy and Isaias a carte blanch to jail, kill, loot, destruct, commit genocide and war crimes. It’s reprehensible not to use all available leverage to stop such appalling violations.

How many people do they need to die of indiscriminate bombing, regime induced collective starvation, luck of medical treatment and extra judicial killings by armies and ethnic militia supported by dictatorial regimes for the #UN and @antonioguterres to intervene?
In #Tigray, it has been 46 days since @AbiyAhmedAli's regime declared a full-scale war consisting of indiscriminate shelling of all cities, drone attacks, massacres committed civilians by ethnic #Amhara militia and two national armies (#Ethiopian and #Eritrean).
Amidst of the war, transport, communication and banking services are blocked and bank accounts of every single Tigrayan are suspended, which means, they cannot withdraw money to buy basics even if they have money in their accounts.

In this long article, @GebrekirstosG provides one of the most comprehensive analysis of the @AbiyAhmedAli's #WarOnTigray. The article disintangles the genealogy of how Ethiopia morphed into interethnic war of no end in sight under Mr. Ali's watch. ethiopia-insight.com/2020/12/18/the…
"Since the war began, heavy bombardment and shelling has rained down on Tigrayan cities. The region is being attacked on many fronts by the Ethiopian National Defense Force, the Eritrean military, Amhara security forces and militia, and special forces from Afar & other regions."
"There has been massive destruction of lives and property. Eritrean and Amhara elements have engaged in widespread pillaging and looting, including, according to multiple reports, prized cultural and religious artifacts."

#WarOnTigray #UNSC ‘s #R2P
A THREAD

The #WarOnTigray is into its 41 days now, with military engagements taking place every single day. Involving hundreds of thousands of forces and all kinds of weaponry, it qualifies as a major war the region has seen in decades. 1/16
Heavy involvement of #Eritrea in the conflict is now confirmed. There is also a strong indication that #UAE drones are in use. The #Sudan is already feeling the hit, as desperate #Tigrians, currently standing at 61,000, are trekking to its eastern villages for safety. 2/16
Uncharacteristic of modern conflict of this magnitude, however, war footages are rare. This has been deliberately effected by the regime. Not only did it render #Tigray off limits to the media and rights organs, it also deployed a systemic campaign of misinformation. 3/16

1/5 It has been a week since I talked to my parents and siblings who live in #Tigray. Every morning I wake up, the first thing i do is pickup my phone and check the news on twitter, facebook and other outlets to know which cities in Tigray .@AbiyAhmedAli has cluster-bombed using
2/5 his warplanes. The #Ethiopia|n government has shutdown phone, internet services to the #Tigray region. But I still hopelessly call my mom's number. Imagine how difficult it is to not be able to check on your elderly parents while COVID-19 is ravaging the nation.
3/5 The #Ethiopian government has already closed all banks, cut all food-aid programs and blocked all transport mechanisms to the region. The suffering of those who need immediate medical attention and food-aid is unimaginable.

1. The war on #Tigray is not between the federal government & a rogue element in the North as @AbiyAhmedAli would have the world believe.
2. It is rather a conflict between an authoritarian, unitarist & ultra-nationalist fascist forces of dictator @AbiyAhmedAli coupled with President for life Isaias Afewerki of #Eritrea on the one hand, & pro-autonomy, pro-constitutional, multi-national federal forces on the other.

1. The #WarOnTigray, as the Oromo public intellectual @awolallo rightly put it in his latest appearance on @AJENews, is ''an extension of the war that @AbiyAhmedAli has been prosecuting in places like Oromia”.
2. The recent military confrontation in #Tigray cannot be properly understood without making a reference to the underlying nature of & the alignment of forces in the already ongoing conflict dynamics all over #Ethiopia.
