Favorite facts about #languages and #cultures in #contact
In #Arabic we say: “Footprints indicate trajectory”, but I never thought that a wheel would reveal a culture. This is how #cultures can be traced through #languages. The reading made me feel like I am solving a puzzle more than exploring languages.
Think twice before starting to learn #English, cuz you’ll end up learning even more -- #German and #French, and more …
After all, it was the Anglo-Saxons and Normans who influenced the vocabulary!!
English is a mixed #language!

Why PTT, #Taiwan's largest terminal-based bulletin board system (BBS), will remain an experimental battleground for CCP #disinformation campaigns, esp. given its Mandarin user base: "A Pilot Study on PTT in the Context of Influence Operations" via @INDSRTW indsr.org.tw/tw/News_detail…
"The initial quest of this research began with the question: Is there CCP influence in PTT?

PTT is the world's largest non-commercial, forum-based, open-source online bulletin board system in the Chinese language. It was created here; it is unique to #Taiwan."
"PTT was the beacon for public opinion in #Taiwan during the #SunflowerMovement in 2014, leading it to be seen by the CCP as an important anti-China and anti-CCP platform. In its aftermath, the CCP ... emphasized the importance of incentivizing and attracting Taiwan's youth."

I am #grateful for the opportunity given by #IWS_Network to share my story, struggles and success in the voices without frontiers (VWF).
My name is Betelhem, most people call me Betty and I prefer it that way. I was born 27 years ago to a young couple in AddisAbeba, the capital of #Ethiopia. #IWSVoices 1/n Image
My mom and me rather look like sisters. Despite being a teenager when she got me, she sacrificed her whole life to raise me up. She made sure I had the best #education possible. I am forever grateful to my mom sis & do everything to make her and God #proud. #IWSVoices 2/n Image

...115 studies were included in this meta-analysis. Results: On average, very little support for a bilingual advantage. However, there were moderator effects: the higher nonverbal IQ in the bilinguals, the greater the bilingual advantage...#SSSR2019 2/3
...results are in line with previous studies (Lehtonen, et al., 2018) in adults who did not show a bilingual advantage. "It seems like the main advantage with bilingualism is the advantage to speak more than one language" #SSSR2019 3/3
