๐ŸงตI spent the past hour searching for a memory of a way to visualize recipe dependencies (both steps and ingredients). It started when @dendronhq's changelog introduced me to @cooklangorg, a way to store human-readable yet parseable recipes. This led me to @adamspiers 's sketch:
Inspired by the idea of a food dependency tree and grouping ingredients by sub-step, I rooted around the "visually-explained" section of my notes, and located @W_R_Chase's pizza ๐Ÿ• from last spring. It was really close, but the search was not over
Little did I know (I left twitter and started goolging): there are multiple bodies of academia for food preparation visualization! @jaukia unearthed this gem from #futureofcoding in a paper about category theory (??) (I suppose everyone has to eat)

1/ We independent researchers like to see ourseveles as fearless foragers. But if we're not careful, we often end up retracing well worn paths
2/ In the #futureofcoding community, we get into various paradigms/topics: blocks, node-and-wires, projectional editors, DSLs, VPLs, OOP, FP, FRP, LISPs, type systems, smalltalks, debuggers, viualizers, direct manipulation, WYSIWYG, program synthesis, formal methods, ...
3/ But breaking into the literature from outside academic for a new field/topic is overwhelming! So we strap on the Silicon Valley mindset and start hacking ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ’ป

...only to later find out that we could've avoided the trouble if we knew our history
