.@KingJames' legacy among the 75 greatest @Lakers:

If you close your eyes and imagine the Lakers greats, do you see him in purple and gold? latimes.com/sports/lakers/…
Maybe you see the 18-year-old kid with the long arms.

Maybe he's in front of a Miami crowd decked in all white, celebrating his first championship. Or maybe you see him in Cleveland, surrounded by adoring fans hanging off of every possible structure. latimes.com/sports/lakers/…
A groin injury cut his first season short, robbing the #Lakers of the chance to find out if James could’ve carried a group of former first-rounders in the postseason. His second season paused with the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic. latimes.com/sports/lakers/… Image

🏀How many games will the #lakers win this season?
Russell Westbrook, who suffered a hamstring injury in the team’s final preseason game Friday, started the regular-season opener against the #Warriors.

For the @Lakers to succeed, they must stay healthy.

Knee and foot injuries took a toll on Anthony Davis last season. That led to TNT analyst Charles Barkley dubbing him ‘Street Clothes.’

“He’s been hurt more than he has played,” Barkley told @BA_Turner.

Anthony Davis has heard all the noise.

The oft-injured
@Lakers star says he's not out to prove anybody wrong. But he does have a goal in mind for the 2022-23 season.

“I only got one goal and that is to play in all 82 games,” he said. latimes.com/sports/lakers/…
Davis knows
@Lakers fans want him on the court much more than the 40 games he played last season or the 55 games that is his average during his 10-year career. And they want to see the best version of him. latimes.com/sports/lakers/…

Austin Reaves was a bright spot in the #Lakers' miserable 2021-22 season.

His path from undrafted farm kid (and 2-time high school state champion) to the @Lakers isn't a coincidence. It involves a little “Showtime” and even some Kobe Bryant. latimes.com/sports/lakers/…
@Lakers Reaves was a shoelace skinny guard in high school. “Sometimes he’d get beaten up just going through the layup line,” coach Isaac Middlebrooks said.

But he led Cedar Ridge High to 2 state titles, including one against Kentucky recruit Malik Monk. latimes.com/sports/lakers/… Image
@Lakers Growing up in a 3-stop-sign Arkansas town so small that the local pizza place is called “The Pizza Place,” it was either going to be sports or farm work, his mom told her boys.

But by the time he was a senior, Reaves was one of the country's highest-scoring high school players, once scoring 73 in a game.

"I respect Frank (Vogel) as a coach, as a man," @KingJames said Monday before the #Lakers dismissed their head coach. "Our partnership that we’ve had over a few years here has been nothing but just candid, great conversations."

latimes.com/sports/lakers/…
"And this guy who gives everything to the game, prepared us every single night along with his coaching staff as well, I give those guys a lot of credit too. ... I’ve got nothing but respect for him."

More on Vogel's firing:

No coach engenders the animosity of Lakers fans like Doc Rivers.

Yet no coach would be more perfect to lead them after Frank Vogel's firing, @BillPlaschke writes. latimes.com/sports/lakers/…

The Lakers have fired coach Frank Vogel after three seasons with the franchise and two years after leading the team to its 17th @NBA championship. latimes.com/sports/lakers/…
Even though Frank Vogel is gone, the #Lakers' problems still remain.

The heart of the roster is not going to change, so the pedigree of the coach must change.

Here's who they should call, @BillPlaschke writes. latimes.com/sports/lakers/…
Malik Monk, who had a career-best 41 points in Sunday's #Lakers win over Denver, said Vogel "kept his cool" despite the constant swirl of rumors. latimes.com/sports/lakers/…

The clips below are a sampler of Jokic's defensive possessions against AD, but most of these will be scoring plays, and mostly in game order, but some grouped by player.
Nikola Jokic opened up on a mission, scoring 4 of the #Nuggets first 5 field goals:

-Takes Dwight from the FT line to the rim for the layup

-Cuts and takes a great feed from Monte Morris for the floater

-posts up Dwight for the midrange j

-bullies Melo inside for the layup

Not a ton of games but some interesting TWEETSTORM WORTHY developments.

Lemme see some QTs tonight, eh friends?

Title: The Dwight Game
#Grizzlies @ #Raptors

A few things jump out on the Grizz side beyond just JJJ having a juicy one and Bane continuing to romp without Ja.

Thing 1 - Melton only got 17 mins. He tried to make the most of them with a usage of 35 but 17 mins is gross no matter how it goes.
I'm going to hang tight because while we all know Jenkins likes to yank him around, this is just ... come on. If it happens again, then I guess we just call Tyus Jones the guy who soaks up all the newly found mins and go from there.

On Jones, he played 34 mins and...

Title: Wait, Who Got Hurt?
#Suns @ #Cavaliers

Look at big JaVale. Hah! I have a soft spot for him, and honestly he hasn't been that bad lately. He's a dynamite fill-in if Ayton misses time again down the road. In the interim, he's more of a 14 or 16 teamer. Still fun, though.
Kevin Love is very much in the streamer discussion but not a games cap level guy. Jarrett Allen's FG% is robust. But overall, no particularly earth-shattering fantasy valuation changes.

"AD's Flu Game, Not Quite"

RTs/Likes appreciated

Again, doing these Sunday through Thursday nights, off Fri and Sat going forward.
#Heat @ #Pistons

Not a ton of thoughts on this game. Miami missed a bunch of FTs or some of the fantasy lines could have been a bit more decent.

Adebayo's assists are near 4 over the last 2 weeks, but his knee continues to concern me. Probably just...
... hold your breath and hope he doesn't miss many more games for it because the other stuff is moving in the direction we wanted/expected.

For the Pistons, I'm enjoying the Cory Joseph stream with Killian Hayes out. Make sure to yank CoJo the moment Killian returns.

#Lakers I am a lifelong fan. After reading your organization took PPP money I can assure you I will never allow one dollar of my future earnings to matriculate your way. A friend of mine who coaches baseball and generates his living by mentoring teens has been out of work
since this started. The college he instructs at was closed and when he went to try and receive the money intended for small business it had been entirely subscribed. I don't care if you give the money back, the fact you felt obliged to
help yourselves to taxpayer money intended for small business owners when your organization has access to hundreds of millions of dollars and special lending arrangements through the NBA is disgusting. I can assure you I am no longer a fan. #lakers

A running thread of things that @Twitter could do to unlock value for users. Will add to overtime. Please feel free to retweet and reply with your own, most of these below I have just taken and summarized from others. In no particular order. 1/♾ #JustKidding 🤔 or am I?
@Twitter I drafted a tweet on my phone but of course, can't access "draft's" on the desktop. So lets maybe start there. The desktop and @Tweetdeck version should be MORE robust than the mobile app not less. Tweetdeck, for example, has no bookmarks, emoji's, live video, polls, gif's, etc
@Twitter @TweetDeck There are SO MANY great meaningful quotes, threads, replies, and conversations that vanish into the Twitter ether, drowned out by hot takes, snark, and 280 character riffs on what some influencer or politician just did. Find a way to collect and resurface this treasure trove.

1/ Congratulations to the #Raptors and to #Canada on winning their first NBA title. They played a great series - #kawhileonard was a great leader but 4 players with 20 points in an elimination game is huge. #NBAFinals
2/ The #Warriors showed a lot of heart and hustle in staying in this game despite injuries and had the ball in Curry's hands with a chance to win, but didn't get it done. #NBAFinals
3/ Yes, the #Warriors were banged up in an epic way, but that doesn't take away from what the #Raptors accomplished. Remember when the 1987 #Lakers beat a banged up #Celtics team? As a #Celtics fan, I was still in awe of how talented the Lakers were.
