Vinayak Damodar Savarkar is one of the most complex personalities in recent history. Read this thread to know more about #Savarkar, the man, revolutionary and #Hindutva demagogue.

Unfortunately, when the debate is polarised between the extremes of black & white, it does not do justice to the complex personality of #Savarkar as a man, revolutionary, reformer, #Hindutva ideologue & an accused in the assassination of #MahatmaGandhi.
What makes #Savarkar stand out among his contemporaries is his strong hero complex bordering on narcissism, and the extreme and often contradictory elements of his personality.

While in the Ratnagiri jail, where Savarkar was shifted in 1921 from the Cellular jail in the Andamans, he wrote his seminal work ‘Essentials of Hindutva,’ which laid the foundations of Hindutva as an ideology.
It laid emphasis on cultural nationalism as against a territorial one, and said that India was for the Hindus alone, and not for the Muslims or the Christians.

#NotMyMahatma - 7

ON THIS DAY, MKGANDHI WAS BEATEN BLACK & BLUE BY CONGRESS WORKERS AT KARACHI.
This happened after 2 days of hanging of our 3 Freedom Fighters.
As Gandhi was very close to British, everybody opined that
“Gandhi alone could have intervened effectively to save
Bhagat Singh's life. He did not, till the very last”.
Bhagath Singh was killed twice, First by Gandhi & Later by Nehruvian Communists.
I will start with a pact which happened between MKGandhi & Viceroy Irwin.
(Congressmen & Communists, before jumping over me, let me tell you,
all this is available at mkgandhi.org)

Executions of 23RD MARCH 1931 marked the collapse of the hopes of millions of Indians who had believed that #MahatmaGandhi would be able to save the lives of the three young heroes - Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru.

#MahatmaGandhi had a complex relationship with Maharashtra, where his mentor Gopal Krishna Gokhale hailed from.

This thread is about #Gandhi and his relationship with #Marathi (and #Maharashtra)

#Maharashtra produced some of his staunchest supporters like Acharya Vinoba Bhave and Sitaram ‘Appasaheb’ Patwardhan, who was referred to as the ‘Konkan Gandhi,’ and his most bitter critics, like Dr #BabasahebAmbedkar and V.D. #Savarkar.
Eventually, a man from #Maharashtra--#NathuramGodse, killed #Gandhi.

Sardagriha opposite the office of the Commissioner of Police, #Mumbai was #LokmanyaTilak's lodging and base in the city. It is here that he took his last breath in the wee hours of 1 August 1920. Tilak's mortal remains were kept for darshan on a chair in this balcony.

Thousands braved the pouring rain for his darshan. Women did their artis before the wicks were extinguished. Tilak's procession to Girgaon Chowpatty was joined by around 2 lakh people including mill workers. One of the bearers of his mortal coils was #MahatmaGandhi & the other
was Maulana Shaukat Ali. The Parsi merchants of #Mumbai ensured that necessary permissions for his cremation on the beach were secured & provided sandalwood logs. As Tilak was being cremated, a grieving Muslim youngster threw himself into to the fire & was singed.

After the clarion call to #QuitIndiaMovement was blown on 9 August 1942, a young Usha told her father that her education would have to wait and left her home to contribute to the freedom movement.

For a fortnight, there was no knowledge of her whereabouts.

In which @HinduAmerican exposes its true colors. For HAF, the Mughals were the enemies. Just why? Half the Mughals were born in India. They were Indians. But Hindutva bigots like HAF see Muslims as non-Indians. In true sense HAF is Godse’s ideological progeny.
You never ever hear @HinduAmerican say one word about the brutal violence being carried out against Muslims and Christians in India by Sanghi mobs. You have to assume that HAF supports all this bigoted violence by Hindu extremists in India.
While @HinduAmerican claims to follow #MahatmaGandhi why doesn’t HAF ever talk about Gandhi’s vision of a composite Hindu-Muslim India? What is HAF’s view on the @RSSorg whose member #NathuramGodse killed Gandhi?

STATECRAFT VS. STAGECRAFT

India's relations with the outside world will be the other test before we can claim to be on solid ground. This essentially means dealing with other countries, especially our neighbours and the big powers, in a manner that ensures peace and security.
According to the theories that currently carry conviction, there are three basic ways of achieving this result—

>>coercion,
>>payment
or
>>attraction.

This mix is regarded as the mantra of a good national
strategy.
But to be historically correct, it must be pointed out that this mantra is neither new nor a Western discovery. As a matter of fact, the basic premise of it has been around for centuries.

Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and M.K. Gandhi's debate on Hinduism and Caste.

(PART-1) 🧵
M.K. Gandhi (1/3)

The Vedas, Upanishads, smritis and puranas, including the Ramayana and the Mahabharata, are the Hindu scriptures. There is no finite list. Every generation has added to the list.
M.K. Gandhi (2/3)

Therefore, that everything printed or even found handwritten is not scripture. The #smritis, for example, contain many things that can never be accepted as a word from God. Thus, many texts which Dr #Ambedkar cites from smritis cannot be considered authentic.

In a sense, #BalasahebPantpratinidhi was among the reformist kings who tried to birth welfare states in colonial India. He was also associated with one of the most popular forms of exercises—the suryanamaskars.

Journey of Sardar: From Gandhi hater to his biggest soldier

Patel also laughed when Gandhi and Vallabhbhai Patel met for the first time. When Gandhiji reached Gujarat Club (where Vallabhbhai used to play bridge) Mavlankar, who had been watching...+
