@bdam555 @excelsi84 @configmgrdev @Anderson I can’t speak to the decision process led to the decision since I left. But I can speak to some of the challenges/tensions (1/?)

#configmgr #memcm #sccm #Microsoft #windows
@bdam555 @excelsi84 @configmgrdev @Anderson Historically - Microsoft has always been good at platform-ish things. Windows, Azure, System Center suite (sccm/sccm), visual studio. Things that are used to build things on top of, or things that run/contain other apps. (2/?)
@bdam555 @excelsi84 @configmgrdev @Anderson However Microsoft has not been as successful when 3rd party content is involved… think SCOM management packs. MOM was awesome when it came out with promises of great content/MPs. But even Msft 1st party MPs were few and lacking (I say humbly - owning one for years) (3/?)

Just finished a project where an old physical Windows Server 2012 R2/SQL Server 2014 #MEMCM site server was replaced with a virtual Windows Server 2019/SQL Server 2019 server.

Site server also had MP/DP roles, but no SSRS/SUP.

Here are some points I learned!

Site server replacement is basically a ConfigMgr site recovery on the new hw.
Docs has nice info about the process.
Notice that you can change the #MEMCM installation directory if needed.

It takes a long time to copy #MEMCM content library with millions of 1k files to the new server…
Remember: ReFS is not supported on content library partition!

@AriSaastamoinen Now Azure AD Join - That's the completely modern way and doesn't require any on prem infrastructure and people can work anywhere there is internet connectivity. Very few companies are there yet
@AriSaastamoinen Workplace Join-Think of this one as just adding a work account to a personal machine. The "join" is only applicable to that person's profile. If some other family member logs in to the machine, they don't have access to any of the cloud resources. Makes Single Sign On work for user
