This is the public pool of University City, MO. Flood water filled the pool, rose over the fence surrounding it, and destroyed it. Heman Park is filled with broken pool chairs and umbrellas and the pool is filled with river and rain. ImageImageImageImage
Welcome to Heman Park. I've walked this park every week for 16 years. The River Des Peres is here. It usually looks like a small dirty creek. Sometimes it dries up to the point that you can walk over it. There are now garbage cans in the trees and the park has become the river. ImageImageImageImage

.@STLFireDept, @SLMPD, @CityEMA, @StlStreets, and more are working together to keep St. Louisans safe during historic rainfall in our region. City departments are monitoring forecasts for more potential rain.

Here's what you need to know this afternoon (1/4) 🧵 #stlwx

I'm so frustrated with radio stations that claim to be serving their communities. Tonight we had two major tornado incidents, one killed two dead in one and countless others missing in an Amazon warehouse collapse. I go to the all news radio stations website and see this. 1/3
It is completely unacceptable for a #radio station to call themselves #news radio and not have 1 word about deaths and damage hours after it happens. They still have the story from this morning saying it could be bad this afternoon. #Tornado @KMOX #stlwx 2/3
And while the "newsradio" station is running recorded programs, the TV stations that do news have done an amazing job wall to wall and now that it's 12:22 in the morning are still doing cut-ins from the @amazon warehouse. @FOX2now @kmov @ksdknews #StLouis 3/3

Massive lightning storm in U City, lots of loud explosions, power out, and it's still going #stlwx
No power in my neighborhood, branches and lines down all over the place. No indication of when electricity will return. Remembering the summer of 2006 when it took eight days... #stlwx

So all that and no storms? What happened?

We had all the ingredients we needed in abundance: moisture, heating, instability, increasing winds above the surface. We knew we would have all these severe thunderstorm ingredients at the ready today. (1/4)
(2/4) Well then, why no storms?

We anticipated storms to focus along the dry line, a boundary between very dry air & very moist air. The dry line moved across MO as expected but we didn't have enough air colliding at the surface to rise and form thunderstorms!
(3/4) Sometimes that's all it takes, one missing ingredient and the day looks completely different than what we expected.
