Taking frequent walking breaks during prolonged sitting could help lower blood sugar and BP

Frequent walking breaks (1 min or 5 min every 30-60 minutes) could help lower blood sugar and BP
2. When participants took a 5-minute light #walk after every half hour of sitting, the blood #glucose spike after eating was reduced by 58% compared with sitting all day (reduction one would see in a diabetic using insulin or #diabetes medications to control their blood sugar).

Dose-response association between the daily step count and all-cause mortality: A systematic review and meta-analysis tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.108โ€ฆ

Compared with the low-step count population, the high-step count population had a 62% lower risk of all-cause death
(HR = 0.38, 95% CI 0.27โ€“0.49). There was a non-linear dose-response relationship between the daily step count and all-cause mortality. Compared with the least (1895 steps), the first quartile (4000 steps/day) had a 37% lower risk for all causes of death (HR = 0.63, 0.57โ€“0.71),
the second quartile (6388 steps/day) had a 60% lower risk for all causes of death (HR = 0.40, 0.32โ€“0.49), the third quartile (9994.3 steps/day) had a 75% lower risk of all-cause death than the first quartile (HR = 0.25, 0.19โ€“0.33).

'Only' observational, but impressive HR! #walk

1) Don't eat your snacks straight from the packet. Put them in a little bowl. Keep refilling the bowl until the packet is empty. Have some dignity!
2) Celebrate your domestic achievements with short naps.
3) Try not to touch yourself constantly.
4) Sunday is shower day. Show the good lord how much you love the body he gave you by scrubbing your limbs briskly with the two pairs of underpants you're washing for next week.
5) Dance on the laundry and let nature take its course.
6) Try not to touch yourself constantly.

Dear @SenKennedy & @BillMagnarelli: Congratulations on becoming Chairs of your houses in the #NYSLegislature. Some thoughts to keep in mind when making policy. (cc @BikeNYBC @transalt @StreetsblogNYC @NYC_SafeStreets)

1) Transportation choices are shaped by public policy.
2) We need to give people safe, convenient transportation choices. Example, loads of people want to cycle places, but they're #2scared2bike.
3) Transportation is the #1 cause of injury death for kids and #2 for adults. But it doesn't have to be this way. Mortality rate in Netherlands is 1/4 of ours. That's because of good engineering (#VisionZero, transit, etc).
