In Dec 2018, @WeAreSparklin introduced a new series - One thing at a time.

Think of ‘OTAT’ as a bite-sized modification to a platform, to heighten the user experience.

We have written fortnightly about 8 different products including Uber, Whatsapp, Zomato

One easy to way to skip the thread and read about One thing at a time in better detail is to review our post

If you’re interested in quicker learning, let me begin with the very first OTAT product improvement 🚕
Uber

Search is usually found at the top

A desktop vs a smartphone have different dimensions. 50% users prefer one-hand approach to mobile.

Why must we move forward with a search-on-top approach on mobile?

What if we moved Uber’s search to lower 40% of the screen?

Swiggy

Why does it feel uncomfortable to order food at a new location?

The option to add an address exists — just that the users are not as aware of the flow.

A simple way to fix this problem is to introduce the “Add Address” button at the top of the screen.

Apple Music

I have 732 songs in my library.

Imagine having to look for a song within my library by just browsing!
The option is to search.

But it’s a multi-step, out of context process.

A pull-to-search at the top of the songs library could fix the problem.

Whatsapp

Whatsapp is your go-to option for all things chat, location, files…

But you can’t send the first message to a new number directly.

First step has to be — add new contact.

An addition of a ‘New Message’ option in the New Chat screen will solve the problem.

Twitter

When I write this tweet and it has the slightest of an error, I’ve got two options, to ignore or to delete.

It’s 2019.

Twitter could move beyond just 140 characters and still stay relevant, why not this?

Allow users to have about 10 mins to edit the tweets.

Youtube

I am not a fan of the YouTube filters.

Channels are instead one of the best ways to find entertaining content.

You can search and find some interesting channels but then that’s slow discovery.

What if your subscribed channel could show similar channels?

Google Sheets

Typical sheets are filled with 1000s of rows and columns worth of data.

One of the biggest drawback of any spreadsheet is making sense of the content — scanning takes forever.

The simplest solution is to highlight the row & column of the selected cell.

Zomato

Most users order food for someone else atleast 1 in 11 orders.

When delivery person calls you to ask for directions, you are mostly clueless.

Users don’t know to manually change name/phone other than just address.

What if we combine address & friend’s details?

✌🏼
Slack

Once message is sent, & no response in 2mins, one tends to move to other platforms like Whatsapp

Is read receipt needed?
The sender can check if the message has been read.

Introducing Acknowledgement!
It’s not a read notification! It’s a deliberate way to acknowledge 💃
