Some random thoughts on #writing:

Having a big vocabulary is never enough. You have to know precisely when and how to unleash your vocabulary, leaving the room for ambiguity as little as possible. This way, you can articulate your points without appearing to be showing off.
It's also crucial to be able to construct sentences that flow -- and that's not an easy job to do for long, complex ones -- for only with sentences that flow can a writer truly engage her readers. That takes a lot of practice on top of a good understanding of the English syntax.
Lastly, ditch all of the Latin-derived artificial conventions that your English teachers might have tried to drill into your brain, like: "Always use active voice", "Never end a sentence with a preposition", etc. No good writers bother with those nonsense.
