.@Jim_Jordan releases letter to @BennieGThompson filled with patently false claims in a futile effort to justify his lack of cooperation with the @January6thCmte. The committee has violated no “safeguard for fairness proceedings” nor “American civil liberties
#SubpoenaJimJordan
I’m going to debunk every line of this dumpsterfest. Here we go.

“The American people are tired of Democrats’ nonstop investigations and partisan witch hunts” ❌

No, we aren’t, Jim. Because Democrats haven’t engaged in any partisan witchhunts and these investigations are vital.
“Your letter of December 22, 2021, unfortunately continues this democratic obsession.” ❌

No, it doesn’t. There’s nothing partisan about this, Jim. And if you weren’t personally involved in the attack, you’d be on 100% on board with getting to the bottom of what happened.
“It amounts to an unprecedented and inappropriate demand to examine the basis for a colleague’s decision on a particular matter pending before the House of Representaives.” ❌

That’s a lot of words to say absolutely nothing, Jim.
“This request is far outside the bounds of any legitimate inquiry, violates core Constitutional principles, and would serve to further erode legislative norms” ❌

The courts have ruled that this inquiry serves a legitimate legislative purpose and violates no principles or norms.
“As you well know, I have no relevant knowledge that would assist the select committee in advancing any legitimate legislative purpose.” ❌

They don’t know that & this reads like an admission that you do possess such information. You also spoke to Trump on 1/6 during the attack.
“I cannot speak to @SpeakerPelosi’s failure to ensure the appropriate security posture at the Capitol complex in advance of the well-publicized protests” ❌

Jim, Pelosi isn’t in charge of securing the Capitol and she tried to get the national guard 12X & Flynn’s brother refused
“I cannot elaborate on former U.S. Capitol police chief Steven Sund’s statement that a concern about “optics”—following widespread calls from Democrats to defund the police—contributed to the limited security response” ❌

Jim, this gross letter better end with your resignation
“I have nothing to add to the bipartisan, comprehensive findings of the senate in investigative committees or to those issued by federal inspectors general” ❌

These findings have implicated you & other members of your party, so not appearing is equivalent to admitting guilt Jim
“I cannot testify about the DOJ’s ongoing law-enforcement efforts, although I am aware of reports that the plots were not coordinated or part of any plot to overturn the election” ❌

Jim, you were a key part in both planning & inciting the insurrection. And spoke to Trump on 1/6
“At the time of the security breach of the Capitol, I was present in the House chamber performing my official duties pursuant to the U.S. constitution and federal law” ❌

Congrats, you somehow managed to make the only potentially true sentence in the letter still sound false
“Your attempt to pry into the deliberative process informing a member about legislative matters before the House is an outrageous abuse of the Select Committee’s Authority” ❌

No, it’s not. This is what’s called feigning outrage over things that are not abusive nor outrageous.
“It is telling that the Select Committee has chosen only to target Republican Members with demands for testimony about January 6th.”

Yes, what this is telling of is that only Republican members of Congress were involved in and have any relevant info to share with the committee
“Unlike many senior democrats, I have consistent in denouncing political violence and supporting law enforcement personnel—whether the violence occurred on Jan 6th at the Capitol or the summer of 2020 in cities across the country.” ❌

This is a disgusting false equivalency, Jim
“I am aware of no effort by the Select Committee to solicit testimony from Speaker Pelosi, House Admin Chair Zoe Lofgren, or any other Democratic members with responsibility for or oversight of the security posture at the Capitol on Jan 6th”

These members weren’t involved, Jim
“This double standard confirms our suspicion that Democrats are using the Select Committee as a partisan cudgel against their political adversaries and not to advance any legitimate legislative purpose” ❌

Who’s “we”? & this confirms that just your party was involved in 1/6, Jim
“Even if I had information to share with the select committee, the actions and statements of democrats show that you are not conducting a fair-minded and objective inquiry” ❌

Telling people ‘I wouldn’t tell you people any Intel even if I had it’ makes it clear you have it, Jim.
“House democrats have already prejudged the results of the select committee’s work, declaring in their Feb 2021 impeachment brief that Trump was unmistakably responsible for the events of January 6th” ❌

That’s because Trump was unmistakably responsible for the events of 1/6
“Democrats have accused their Republican colleagues of sedition and called them traitors for objecting to electoral college results in certain states”

Yes, we have, Jim, because no evidence substantiates these objections and the courts have confirmed this in over 4 dozen cases.
“Democrats violated the most fundamental and longstanding safeguard for fairness in House proceedings in standing up the Select Committee” ❌

The select committee hasn’t violated a “fundamental or longstanding safeguard” for fairness in House proceedings. This is just gibberish
“In an unprecedented action, Pelosi rejected McCarthy’s chosen @GOP leaders to serve on the select committee” ❌

Nothing was unprecedented. Pelosi offered senate @GOP the chance to form a bipartisan committee; they refused. She didn’t let you or Banks on because you’re involved.
“Speaker Pelosi also failed to consult with Leader McCarthy about the appointment of @GOP members, in direct violation of the requirement” ❌

There was no such requirement. She rejected you & Rep. Banks because you were complicit in Jan 6th and represented a conflict of interest
“As a result, and without any @GOP members selected by the GOP leader, the select committee has no effective measure of balance or objectivity” ❌

Republicans helped incite 1/6. Putting members you picked on this committee would be like putting Bin Laden on the 9/11 commission.
And yet Pelosi still included two @GOP representatives on the committee: @RepLizCheney & @RepKinzinger. The fact that this still wasn’t good enough for you is a dead give away that you wanted compromised GOP members on the committee in order to obstruct/impede the investigation.
“The conduct of the Select Committee to date reinforces the perception that it cannot be trusted to operate fairly or in good faith.” ❌

The committee has engaged in no conduct to indicate that it cannot be trusted nor is it operating in bad faith. It’s done the exact opposite.
“The select committee has abused fundamental civil liberties—investigating private citizens political speech protected by the first Amendment—and seeking to impose gag orders to prevent them from notifying customers that the committee has demanded their data” ❌
Not one true word
“When good faith disputes over privileged info have arisen, the committee has declined to make genuine efforts to obtain information through the civil contempt mechanism available to congress, instead choosing to punish people through criminal contempt referrals”
THIS IS NONSENSE
1st, no asserted privileges by subpoenaed witnesses were applicable

2nd, there is no “secret good faith mechanism for getting records from uncooperative witnesses.” If anything, they were too respectful by using a grand jury instead of inherent contempt
“The Select Committee has also failed to operate transparently, holding just a single public hearing to gather testimony.” ❌

Investigative committees aren’t required to be transparent as their purposes are investigative; that is, the collection of relevant testimony & documents
In addition, the chairs of the committee have repeatedly made clear that public hearings will be held in the coming months. Perhaps as someone who has served on these committees throughout your more than 10 years in office (during which you’ve passed zero bills) you’d know this.
I’m ending this because the rest is so ludicrous it doesn’t deserve to be dignified with a response. No, the committee has not selectively leaked, altered/misrepresented documents, or spread misinformation. @Jim_Jordan must be subpoenaed and then prosecuted for his role in Jan 6
I need a shower after reading that filth. What an utter embarrassment that this person serves in our Congress and collects a tax-payer funded salary. He should resign and issue a public apology to every person he’s ever interacted with on Capitol Hill. You are disgusting, Jim.

Getting vaxxed and wearing a mask has nothing to do with fear. It means you acknowledge this virus continues to spread throughout the nation, overwhelming our hospitals, and that you don’t personally want to be responsible for jeopardizing the health, safety, or lives of others.
It means you recognize that we live in a society and that with that comes an obligation to show a certain degree of respect for the well-being & safety of others. This is why you don’t insist on smoking indoors or going through red lights and stop signs when driving.
It means you are capable of putting your political views aside and acting in an adult, humane, responsible way. That you care about individuals who are too young to be vaccinated or who are sick or immunocompromised and therefore do not enjoy the same level of protection you have

Dear media:

Stop giving Republicans a pass on their unwavering united opposition to voting rights. Ask them specifically what provisions of the Freedom to Vote Act they oppose and make them justify each one. Thanks.

Sincerely,
Americans fighting for democracy
I’ll help you out:

1.) What specifically is their problem with establishing a national standard for early voting? If they claim it will “nationalize elections,” ask them what that even means and what SPECIFICALLY the provision does that they disagree with & how they’d change it.
2.) What specifically is their problem with same-day registration? This is already in place in over 20 states, several of which they currently control. If they claim it “enables widespread fraud,” ask them to back this up with evidence [There isn’t any]

I am so sick of watching this country make the same mistakes over and over and over with this fucking pandemic

Require proof of vax & masks for all domestic flights
Masks for all indoor spaces & workplaces
No indoor dining/gatherings

We could have ended this so many times over
Stop letting republicans & right wing lunatics with inexplicably large followings like @benshapiro who have “DO NOT COMPLY” as their profile picture while they and their entire families are fully vaccinated control the narrative. Stop playing defense against this murderous idiocy
ENOUGH

@benshapiro thinks he’s some sort of pro debater, right?

Ok, Ben. I challenge you to justify telling your nearly 4+ million followers and god knows how many fucking podcast listeners you have to “not comply” with something you’ve complied with & know can save their lives

“Pro-Lifer”: Abortion is murder
Me: That’s a bumper sticker, not an argument
“Pro-Lifer”: So you can’t refute it
Me: I can refute it, it’s just dumb
“Pro-Lifer”: Do it
Me: How do pregnancies occur?
“Pro-Lifer”: Women don’t keep their legs closed
Me: So they impregnate themselves?
“Pro-Lifer”: Obviously a man is required for that
Me: So a man impregnates them once they “fail to keep their legs closed”?
“Pro-Lifer”: Yes
Me: So the man creates the baby, but the woman is at fault?
“Pro-Lifer”: Yeah, she could’ve just said no to the guy
Me: What about him?
“Pro-Lifer”: What about him?
Me: Couldn’t he have just jerked off or worn a condom?
“Pro-Lifer”: So you’re blaming the guy
Me: That’s just how pregnancies occur
“Pro-Lifer”: So men should always wear condoms
Me: If avoiding pregnancy and “protecting life” is the issue, then yes

Reminder: You have to actually show up to testify to plead the 5th, and the @January6thCmte can still choose to reject that plea for any questions that they want because that’s how investigative committees in the House of Representatives work.
In criminal cases, the 5th Amendment protects against self-incrimination, guarantees the right to a grand jury & forbids double-jeopardy. But the idea that “pleading the 5th” is some magic get out of accountability free card is incorrect. There are limits on this for good reason
Even if the committee doesn’t exercise it’s power to overrule the 5th, it can probe witnesses’ reasons for not answering & seek immunity from a court guaranteeing their testimony will not be used to prosecute them (this doesn’t mean they can’t be prosecuted for their crimes).
