I WATCHED OWEN JONES WATCH THE HAMAS MASSACRE VIDEO: MY RESPONSE

Expanded my initial thoughts into some detail, unpacking this video about 7th Oct and related footage. It's for the record (whatever that's worth) but more for my own sanity.

medium.com/@marlonsolomon… In summary: many allegations made against Owen and his video are flat out false. There is no ‘atrocity denial’, he repeatedly condemns Hamas for war crimes and discusses the traumatising nature of the footage. I believe this to heartfelt and genuine.

"I'm not going to stand here and plead the case that antisemitism in the Labour Party was a real or serious problem. I've done that before. I've put examples of Holocaust denial on the screen told stories about the awful stuff I and other Jews experienced, and honestly... ... what's the point? I mean, the vast *vast* majority of Jewish people in the UK know that this was a very serious problem, it really affected some of our lives. And yet every month a new book or YouTube film comes out explaining how we were lying about it for our own...

Absolute state of this. 100's of replies screaming at a Jewish woman for a totally standard descriptor of what antisemitism felt like to her during the Corbyn years.

This self-destructive capacity to prove our point again and again is something I'll never cease to be amazed by. I mean, you'd just walk on by. It's not an attack on an individual or an idea. Even if you felt it silly you'd surely think... yeah maybe tweeting "YOU'RE A STUPID HYSTERICAL LIAR" at a Jew expressing how antisemitism made her feel might be a bit, y'know, counter-productive.

Oh great, well you should tell the Jewish community in Chile - who seem quite happy with his election victory - that Boric's apology to them was hollow and made only under duress through fear of a (((very powerful establishment))). I'm sure that'll make them feel much better. Disgraceful pile-on on Danielle this, initiated surprise surprise by *that* Novara jounro.

Due to some poor journalism in parts of the US Jewish press, Boric's apology/subsequent engagement with Jews in Chile wasn't mentioned so many of us didn't know.

"When the far-right come for Jews we'll be the first to defend you" said those "anti-racists" haughtily to any Jew who dared be vocal about antisemitism in places outside the far-right... namely a certain section of the left.

So to recap, in just the past few months we've had: A car with Palestinian flags driving through a Jewish area in North London shouting "fuck the Jews, rape their daughters" down a megaphone,

OK the winner of the World Cup of Antisemitic Canary Articles (That No One Can Be Arsed Doing) goes to...

ISRAEL PUT UP A £1,000,000 BOUNTY FOR LABOUR INSIDERS TO UNDERMINE CORBYN A masterpiece of contemporary left antisemitic doctrine. Wild conspiracism, nefarious influence, illegitimate finance, limitless power from the infinitely evil Jewish collective to destroy socialism.

Like its notable precursors it was 100% fiction and it spread like wildfire.

RT locked Jew🔒 The problem with Labour antisemitism was not that (some of) the right of the party criticised it, it's that the left of the party engaged in it.

So take your "weaponised" and fuck off.

Now I need to go away and calm down. That was yer typical response to Owen Jones' show tonight. 94% of Jews didn't vote Labour in 2019. That's the facts right there.

I mean, yeah, keep chatting to the 6%, knock yourselves out, but don't pretend that nearly 19 out of 20 of us aren't excluded from your platforms.

1/ I'd have far less of a problem with the tiny number of Jews whom JVL represent being presented as an equal side of an internal Jewish disagreement if they actually got questioned about the key part they themselves have played in the antisemitism problem. 2/ Let's be clear about JVL: a very small Jewish org who have genuine extremists in their ranks. Two of them have recently gone full Q Anon, one of whom, last year, co-organised a Guardian letter in support of Chris Williamson which got pulled because -->

Sorry but this an absolutely disgraceful tweet on so many levels. Not only to say that Jonathan Freedlans's concern for the Uyghars is fake but to say he'd approve of it. Genocide. A people herded into camps, cultural erasure, hair forcibly removed and sold. A Jewish journalist. Image This was the (largely missed) piece he wrote during the siege of Aleppo for the Chronicle - whilst the absolute boy's favourite rag was calling it a "liberation" and Freedland's biggest critics, like the one in question, were swimming in a sea of Assad apologism and worse. This morning someone attempted to post Sara Gibb's address in these replies...all because she told a joke about Corbyn. After which she was lied about, abused, harrassed, received antisemitic & misogynistic comments. 100's of tweets, all Corbyn supporters.
After she was bullied off Twitter, as she couldn't take the abuse anymore, she was called a coward for locking her account, then people started going to her blog to write comments, emails, attempts at doxxing. She's absolutely terrified.

All 'cos she told a joke about Corbyn.

The difference between what Starmer has done with Wavertree CLP & the previous leadership’s approach to antisemitism: Rosie Duffield (in an ultra-marginal seat) was censured by 19 members of her CLP for attending #EnoughIsEnough demo & speaking at @JewishLabour conference. It was that horrible summer and there was a bit of coverage about it. Corbyn got collared in an interview on BBC South East. His advisor, James Schneider, stopped the interview, as soon as the censure brought up, in order to spin it as being a motion involving only two people.

- But Marlon why do you focus on the left so much when there's antisemitism everywhere?

- I guess because at the moment, on the British left, you get 2500 retweets for justifying why it's right to blame Jews for killing their own kind because of their opposition to antisemitism. oh but that's just a crank, it's the cranks...
Sure, the biggest crank in Britain, David Icke, with over a million subscribers, doesn't get anywhere near 2500 retweets. Corbynite sticking it to the Jews? Guaranteed viral content. See also Mendoza's eye-popping traffic. Why?

Never forget that in the 2017 local elections, 3 Labour candidates turned out to be Holocaust deniers and 4th who said Hitler was right about the Jews. All joined in 2015.

Never forget the leadership's own Head of Disputes attempted to quash the suspension of a Holocaust denier. Never forget that over 2000 supporters of Jeremy Corbyn endorsed an antisemitic statement on FB which referred to Jews as a "very powerful special interest group" who must be opposed regardless of their "history and influence."

1/ Superb takedown in @fathomjournal of @jsternweiner's book which attempts to refute allegations of antisemitism in the Labour Party.

Unsurpsingly it not only fails to do so but demonstrates how antisemitism denial elides into the very prejudice it seeks to minimise. 2/The book - a collection of essays - omits significant details (Raed Salah/Paul Eisen!) but JVL member Alan Maddison, along with Stern-Weiner, proceed to justify why antisemitic tropes should be up for discussion.

'Stereotypes Should Be Discussed Not Sanctioned.'

Disgusting and obscene but something we knew was going on.

One thing this good investigative piece doesn't mention is that Elleane Green and Pete Gregson were suspended but were still allowed to attend party meetings... alongside Jewish Labour members.

theguardian.com/news/2020/feb/… All things being equal the headline should read "UK left antisemites attended meetings with far-right antisemites" but all things are not equal.

1/ The Alan Bull story is perhaps the worst case of institutional antisemitism seen in Labour since 2015. Its worth looking at what happened to understand why the selection of Ed Murphy is another victory for those who enabled antisemitism in the Labour party. 2/ Bull was reported to the regional party for antisemitic posts by two local Labour councillors including @MatthewMahabadi, other members raised it with the CLP. Nothing happened.

This is what Bull had posted.

1/ How's the "fight against real antisemitism" going @mattkenard?

Is it going like this...? 2/ Was the real fight going well when you chastised the Guardian for pulling letter supporting Williamson *which you knew* was signed by people who'd said antisemitic things, inc. at least one non-Jew who was basically a Nazi?

1/This is the email Canary journalist @wrightismight sent a Jewish victim of antisemitism after the Panorama doc.

In the doc Stephane discussed how a threatening video, calling him a "fucking Jew", was made by a Labour member and posted online. The police were involved. If it could be any more deplorable, that journalist was even informed that Stephane was orignally a Corbyn-supporter and member of Momentum who was pushed out by anti-Jewish racism...

Like clockwork letter appears in @guardian from the same 100 Jewish people in support of someone suspended from Labour re: antisemitism, this time Chris Williamson.

A look at why some of them may take that position:

1/ Elleane Green, 9/11 truther of the Mossad did it variety. 2/ Tony Greenstein. Expelled from Labour for persistent use of antisemitic language.

1/ It isn't a silly quibble to point out that @jsternweiner framed his thread as "veteran Jewish peace activist smeared as antisemite" when the criticism was of what Secker actually said, not that he was "an antisemite."

May seem a subtle distinction but it isn't, here's why... 2/ It's a deceptive straw man which is then taken up eagerly by others.

Paint the person as wholly virtuous, above reproach, make the issue about them and skim over or ignore what has been said or done and it's knock-on effect.

Same trick with the Warsaw Ghetto graffiti.

1/ I often use this case as an example of how serious or endemic the problem of antisemitism is in Labour and the wider left. This statement went round pro-Corbyn FB groups after the #EnoughisEnough Jewish anti-racism demo. It is a statement of antisemitism. 2/ It was widely condemned (after it made the press) including by @johnmcdonnellMP and @owenjones84. It was endorsed well over 2000 times before it was finally pulled by the author, who is now standing as a Labour candidate in the local elections.
