You think housing prices will keep going up because you've seen it all your life. But this is a historic anomaly that is likely to reverse soon: Prices might start shrinking in many places.

This thread is the case against investing in housing: Image
Our perception of real estate prices is extremely biased.
Most ppl alive today have only experienced them since WW2, but that's a completely anomalous period!

Prices before did not grow as much. Here are real prices for 14 countries
What happened?

Supply and demand
The last 80 years have seen a growth of housing demand never seen before. At the same time, supply has been shrinking consistently. These trends are all reverting now. Let's look at them in detail:

One demand students are calling for is Israeli divestment. Divestment is not a new request. In fact, it’s been asked for many times, most notably in the 80s to protest South African apartheid. What is less talked about is why colleges will resist divestment more than ever. 🧵/1
Colleges are resisting divestment more now than ever partially because they shifted their endowments from low risk assets to private equity and real estate hedge funds in the mid to late 80s. It caused endowments to soar and institutions to center big donors /2
Suddenly, you have hedge fund managers in the game promising big returns. The more money raised, the more returns. And this meant schools needed more money so they shifted to trying to fund fields that would produce wealthy graduates and donors (aka not humanities). /3

What happens in the days after you die?

It will be horrible for your loved ones.

I learned about something you can do to make that easier for them:

The Green Box Exercise. Image
Here’s how it works:

Collect all the info your loved ones will need after you’re gone.

Put it in a box. (Preferably green.)

With a roadmap to find everything.

This will save your family, lawyers, etc., from puzzling out a million loose ends.

Here’s what I put in mine:
Personal stuff

- A “START HERE” document that lists everything in the box
- Letters to your spouse/children/parents
- Any mementos and to whom you’d like them given
- Copy of Will
- Copies of your power of attorney documents

I want to offer this as resistance escalates on college campuses. as a former activist & organizer, as someone who has been ringing the alarm since pre-2020 about the rise of fa*cism, I implore those of us who work with students to consider the following as we fight back. 1/n
arrests are not the same political tactic that they used to be in the 60s & 70s. during the CRM, arrests worked partially b/c the criminal legal system did not have the capacity to contain protestors. getting arrested “slowed down” police. the spectacle of arrests… 2/n
made visible through the tech of TV brought the US under world ridicule. the rise of mass incarceration, the expansion of police power and funding, & the militarization of the police are all direct results of this. 3/n

AVENGERS: ENDGAME was released 5 years ago this week. The goodbye story for the original 6 Avengers, and one of the biggest movies ever made, ATRM telling its story is as inevitable as Thanos…

The story of Thanos collecting the Infinity Stones to wipe out half the universe was so epic, Marvel Studios knew they needed two films to do it. Infinity War and Endgame were filmed in one 200-day production. With Infinity War making $2bn, the pressure was on for Endgame.

Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely – who had written all 3 Captain America movies and Thor: The Dark World – penned both parts, and filmmaking brothers Anthony and Joe Russo directed. They would all go on to sit among the most commercially successful filmmakers ever.

If you don't have world-class 1:1 meetings, you'll never have a high-performing team.

Period.

My blueprint to having ridiculously good meetings: Image
1:1 meetings are not an add-on to your role as a manager—they are foundational to it.

Those who fully embrace them as the place where leadership blooms:

• Build trust and safety
• Make their teams' day-to-day output better
• Improve employees' experiences and motivation
Before the Meeting: Lay the Groundwork

Stress that these 1:1s are not micromanaging or signaling dissatisfaction, but opportunities to:

• Discuss careers
• Know each other better
• Learn about challenges

1:1s are stepping stones, not stumbling blocks.

1. The problem with women in politics, in the office, and entering into right wing political spaces is just this point:

It is perfectly acceptable for a man to be mean to a man, or a woman to be mean to a man, a woman to be mean to a woman.

But a man cannot be mean to a woman.
2. A is not supposed to bully a woman. He is not supposed to make her cry.

A man is expected to use his strength, his more forceful character and voice, his capacity for violence, to protect a woman.
3. In marriages these dynamics are navigated by love, sex, children and the man and woman fulfilling different roles. But a woman in marriage restrains his capacity for violence by means of her “feminine charms.” The mad gets sex. He gets children. He gets respect. He gains.

🧵Thread:
Image

WELL WELL WELL I am pretty sure we never heard this part of the "classified documents/box" story!

More from unredacted motions in FLA--this is from an unsealed transcript of witness interview.

FBI agent says GSA was holding large quantity of Trump's boxes in VA and then ordered his team to come get them.

I am sure NOTHING hanky happened there...Image
So an entire pallet full of boxes that had been held by GSA somewhere outside of DC is dumped at Mar-a-Lago. Apparently these are the boxes that ended up containing papers with "classified markings."

I will double check indictment but I don't recall this event in the timeline: Image

Build Strength From The Ground Up With Minimal Equipment

Here’s How:
Image
Image
1. FHL Raise 2 x 25

All you need is a wall for this one!

Step away from the wall as shown to put your calves into a full stretch. Push through your big toes and pause at the top.

You can also use the one-legged version for more of a challenge.

2. Tibialis Raises 2 x 25

Now turn around and work the other side of your ankles as shown in the clip below.

Use a full pause at the top. The farther your heels are from the wall, the more challenging this exercise becomes.

The first words of my testimony before The United States House Select Committee on the Attack on the United States Capitol were that, “A stake was driven through the heart of American democracy on January 6, 2021, and our democracy today is on a knife’s edge.”
The Supreme Court of the United States would cut the heart out of America’s Democracy and the Rule of Law and unsoul the Nation were it to rule that an American president is immune from prosecution under the Constitution
for attempting to overturn a presidential election and cling to power against the will of the American People.

Thank you, @GregTSargent.

It's time for some updates on the PS/2 Model 70 386. This week, I got a ton of parts in to put it together and spent some time configuring it with DOS and Windows for Workgroups 3.11. And, it has been an adventure. Buckle up for a fun 🧵. Here we go!
Image
Image
So, first, I did get all of the components installed! Here is what the system looks like with everything populated. You'll notice that the ESDI hard drive is plugged in. More on that in a minute... spoiler alert.. it's good news! Image
On a microchannel system, each board has to be configured. When you've added something and haven't configured it, you get an error message on boot, and you need to grab your Reference Disk and get to work. However, the system does a good job with automatic configuration.

Can we...just accept that we suck at this?

I want to tell you a story that has made me kinda hopeless about Twitter's ability to affect positive things happening, and it starts with this tweet from Hillary Clinton.

It was (and I understand why) widely mocked. The graph is confusing and bad, especially the part where it flattens out in 2030 (which is when most of the provisions of the Inflation Reduction Act, the largest climate change bill in the history of Earth, expires.)
Some of the people making fun of the tweet were like "How do I vote for Target" which is a good joke. But the majority of the popular tweets about it were like "This is the problem with Democrats, they will only ever be just a little better than Republicans."

The Woke mind virus is eating away at its host population.

The left isn't reproducing, turning to God, getting healthier, or stronger.

Here is why the right will win the demographic war, and create a NEO-Byzantium.

THREAD 🧵🧵🧵 Image
Up until the industrial revolution, evolution selected for resistance to genetically based diseases.

Now that we've eliminated what was once the 'crucible of evolution' - child mortality - evolution is selecting for resistance to ideologically based mind viruses like leftism. Image
As many have noted, conservatives have a strong evolutionary advantage over liberals because they are simply reproducing more.

According to the General Social survey, conservatives have a fertility advantage of 41% over liberals.

Why have Russian forces advanced in multiple directions and what are the implications? What are the future prospects? Today's analysis by Frontelligence Insight centers on Chasiv Yar, Kurakhkove, and Ocheretyne

Before proceeding, please like and share to aid visibility. 🧵Thread Image
2/ Ukrainian forces retreated from Ocheretyne and Solovyove. While the 115th brigade was blamed, the core issue is that many brigades are not in a condition to hold the enemy with disproportional advantage in personnel, artillery, vehicles, and air support along the frontline Image
3/ Our team has received reports of poor communication, coordination, and leadership. These problems are rooted in deeper systemic issues, like personnel shortages and challenges in preparing skilled officers for senior roles promptly and in holding them accountable

I had a few pro-Russian trolls denying the effectiveness of cluster munitions on Russian railway infrastructure and engines the other day.⬇️🤣

Rail yards are one definition of "soft target."

1/
ATACMS M79 APAM submunitions hit far harder than the .50 caliber guns of WW2 fighter planes.

Here is are WW2 .50 caliber machine gun train strafing films to calibrate your eyes.

2/

And this is a ATACMS M79 cluster munitions weapons effect video hitting a simulated surface to air missile battery target.

Ukraine will soon have the ATACMS capability to strike every railyard inside Russian occupied Ukraine simultaneously. 😈
