A thread…

This video has been making the rounds on Twitter.

This is @MichaelFordTO - Minister of Multiculturalism and nephew of @fordnation…highlighting the 900 people of Indian heritage that currently live in Ontario.

#onpoli

1/
900. Nine. Zero. Zero.
In Ontario.

A quick google search indicates over 750,000 people of Indian heritage in the province. It took about 30 secs to find that info.

One would think the Minister of Multiculturalism would have access to the same info I have.

#onpoli

2/
All jokes aside…this is emblematic of the @fordnation govt in so many ways.

We see a minister who is woefully unqualified put in a position simply because of who he’s related to…ineptitude rewarded by nepotism…classic Doug Ford.

Yet this is just the veneer.

@writenrun @TimHoustonNS @CH_ABeswick @NS_Justice @nspc I recently heard @CTVSteveMurphy tell @TVeinotteShow that Tim Houston is a lot more like Stephen McNeil than most people realize.

In other words, they're both "my way or the highway" kinda' guys. #WhiteMalePrivilege
@writenrun @TimHoustonNS @CH_ABeswick @NS_Justice @nspc @CTVSteveMurphy @TVeinotteShow @skimber The new Tim Houston has morphed into the old Stephen McNeill: arrogant, angry, self-righteous. (paywalled) #nspoli #nspc halifaxexaminer.ca/commentary/hou…
@writenrun @TimHoustonNS @CH_ABeswick @NS_Justice @nspc @CTVSteveMurphy @TVeinotteShow @skimber Last week, @MLABarbAdams announced plans to build 600 new #LTC beds, doubling the number under development.

Good news, but… Is it playing politics to note that most of those beds will not open until 2025, the year the Tim Houston govt. is scheduled to seek a new mandate? Image

If you're on #ODSP and someone is giving you shit by saying "I'm a taxpayer, you're just . . . "

The total amount of provincial taxes that I pay (I make $70,000) that goes to a single person on ODSP is $0.0003. Feel free to value their opinion as such.
I pay roughly $4000 in provincial income tax.
Ontario's total expenses is $180,000,000,000.
ODSP is $15,000 per recipient

15,000 x 4,000 / 180,000,000,000 = 0.0003
$0.0003 * 550,000 = $165 for the entire ODSP payouts provincially. That's about 2 weeks of my taxes.

This morning's #OLRB hearing in Min. of Education v. CUPE begins at 9 am. Watch it here:

I will comment until I need to be a dad.

First up: OLRB decision on whether @Sflecce & another senior govt official can/should be ordered to appear as witnesses.
Recap:

1. OLRB denied intervenor status to other ONT unions. This will speed up the hearing, which is govt's goal.

2. OLRB permitted govt to fix a mistake in name of respondent, from CUPE-ONT to CUPE.

3. OLRB reserved on CUPE's request for @Sflecce to be summons to testify.
Today the case will move into actual merits of case.

Govt is seeking a declaration that education workers are engaged in an unlawful strike supported & encouraged by CUPE leaders.

OLRA, s. 100 grants OLRB a discretion to make orders re unlawful strike

1/ Statement from PIPSC President Jennifer Carr on Doug Ford's union busting, Charter-breaching tactics (a thread):

What Doug Ford is doing is an unprecedented attack on labour rights in Ontario.

#onpoli #39kIsNotEnough #CUPE #notwithstandingclause
2/ Make no mistake – if Doug Ford succeeds in invoking the #notwithstandingclause to avoid bargaining with @CUPEOntario, he'll do that every time he finds anyone’s constitutional rights to be inconvenient to his agenda.

#onpoli #39kIsNotEnough #CUPE #OnLab
3/ It will be used by every right-wing provincial and federal gov't to ignore their obligations to bargain fairly. These actions will erode our hard-won rights – not just the right to collective bargaining, but every right enshrined in the Charter.

“I am coming to you with this information in hopes that you may ask @StrangRobert if the daycares have been directed not to go public with the number of positive cases."

#PaidSickLeave #PandemicPay #ECE
The govt. could always make an exception to the age-based vaccination program, as it chose to do for police officers. (One of Strang's biggest flip-flops.)

These days, female ECEs are arguably at as much risk of contracting the virus as police officers. ottawa.ctvnews.ca/licensed-dayca…

#CUPE Alberta President Rory Gill addresses convention. Watch this feed for highlights. #ableg #ablabour #abpoli
Gill: The theme of this year’s virtual convention is ‘Resilience, Solidarity and Power’ and I think that’s very appropriate. Now in #CUPE we always strive for clear language so when I hear those words I think “Never stop fighting, stick together, and win.” #abpoli #ablabour
Gill: The more adversity we’ve faced, the stronger we’ve become, together and it's together that we will keep getting stronger and overcome the challenges of these times, no matter how daunting and tough they may be. #CUPE
