1| I try to focus on a single story in every post, but I want us to have proportions. So let's compare and contrast #Israel's response to @benandjerrys's not wanting to be complicit in its #WarCrimes, to Israel's actual war crimes.

Cases of #pillage by corporate actors investigated and brought to justice are rare.

Very rare.

Still, TRIAL International in recent years has submitted no less than 4 such criminal cases to the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) of #Switzerland.
1/
The first complaint concerned the role played by #Argor-Heraeus in refining several tonnes of gold illegally extracted from the #DRC.
The OAG decided in 2015 to close it down.
Not being a civil party, TRIAL was unable to appeal the decision.

The second case, filed in 2016, concerns a Swiss businessman, Christoph Huber, currently under (very slow) investigation by the OAG for his role in the #looting of raw materials in the #DRC.

Unfortunately, workers currently arenā€™t ā€œfree to work for any firm.ā€ 1 in 5 workers are banned from working for other companies in the same industry by non compete clauses.

Originally intended to protect corporate secrets, now it mostly limits the mobility of service workers.
Bernieā€™s Corporate Accountability and Democracy plan will ban non-compete clauses.

It will also protect workers by banning mandatory arbitration clauses & unilateral modification clauses. #corporateaccountability
Mandatory arb. clauses are bad for workers across the board, but consider what it means for historically marginalized ppl.

Your job has a pattern of racial/gender discrimination? No class action for you! No criminal liability!

It limits accountability for them at your expense

Thatā€™s right: almost none of us will be able to take our employers to court. How did we get here? Corporations have been scheming for years to shield themselves from accountability when they violate the rights of workers and consumers. /2
In the late 1990ā€™s, a coalition of Wall Street companies strategized to block class actions, one of the only tools working people have to challenge corporate abuses. nytimes.com/2015/11/01/busā€¦ /3
