Has the NFT market topped out?

I pointed out that the dwindling momentum over the previous week could signify the start of a retracement in the NFTs market.

This week, Vol & Transactions decreased 21 & 31% respectively.

1b: This particular week (@opensea only!)

The weakened momentum from the previous week carried over but Volume did pick up towards the end.

However, I believe that the increase is short-lived and not indicative of broader market sentiment.

🧵 Reflecting on the insane growth of #NFTs in 2021 it's fascinating how the most popular PFP projects such as #cryptopunks @BoredApeYC @RTFKTstudios etc only draw comparisons to one another but never to yield generating NFT games like @Sorare ⚽️

With the NFT market being in it's infancy it's clear to me that there is room for all of these projects and so many more to thrive.

But, with more and more to discover every day in this newly created metaverse, what type of games/projects will new users gravitate towards?

Now whilst I'm not a disbeliever, I find it harder each month to consider entering new NFT projects that don't offer any prospect of yield.

Conversely, I know this to be true of PFP owners who rarely convert to games like Sorare despite the utility they offer.

Why so?

1/ Flash Loan attacks are a crypto-specific attack where people can take advantage of market arbitrage within different exchanges w/o any leverage while risking only the gas fee of the transaction.

2/ The person behind the Flash Loan attack will code up a smart contract to borrow a lot of money from multiple sources and return said money within the same transaction. Thus there is no risk for either the borrower OR the seller.

Many thought it will be the summer of Layer2s

Although it is true that
1. @Uniswap and @synthetix_io did go live on @optimismPBC
2. @arbitrum did launch a full-fledged Dev-Net

But we are still not there yet. The magic of Layer2s is still to be utilized by the #Ethereum world

Many predicted just like the last time it would be the summer of #DeFi
We did get some institutional engagement around Defi and it did mature in terms of options and Yield strategies.

But we can still not call it the summer of defi like the last time

1/ Hello all 🤗! It's been a minute since we looked at NFTs, so this week we're diving back into the art world 🎨. Today, we're looking at one of the most popular collections of all time: #Cryptopunks, created by @larvalabs.

2/ The first chart depicts the volume of sales this year from Cryptopunks bought and sold on @Opensea. We thought it would be cool to show total volume against highest daily sales, which interestingly have different peaks.

3/ The highest recorded #Cryptopunk sale was on March 11, for a whopping 4200 Eth 🤯💸. Only a handful of other sales were valued at over a million USD.

My journey started in 2013 when I came to a realisation about Bitcoin - it could be used to send digital items! I even designed how to do it using a protocol similar to Counterparty.

2. When Ethereum first came out, I wrote a smart contract that could put all the Magic the Gathering cards on-chain, including all their data and a URL image link. I calculated it would cost $20k to do! Not money I had at the time, however.

3. At the same time, Tyler Smith at @FreeMyVunk was thinking along similar lines, presenting at DevCon 1 in London. I decided to form my own startup to explore it further, Ownage, with @joincolony’s @jackdurose and the Neopets founder amongst others.
