A mother just told me her son has been on remand – in prison – for almost a year after being supected of couriering an ounce of a class B drug.
The prosecution submitted a truly ludicrous valuation of this substance to the court – and they've provided no evidence to substantiate this price whatsoever, despite repeated requests from the defence.
Unsurprisingly, the defendant invested their time + money in commissioning an independent drug valuation expert. This specialist agreed that the valuation was astonishing, even saying he'd never seen anything so unbelievable with no supporting evidence.

A 🧵

At approximately 1.30pm on the 23rd of December 2021 emergency services were called to a fire which had broken out on the 3rd and 4th levels of the Park Hotel, 701 Swanston Street, Carlton.
This isn’t about the fire.
This is about what happened afterwards.
Photos emerged of emergency vehicles in the street, taken from both inside and outside the Park Hotel. Police stood in the doorway and the occupants, approximately 34 refugees, were shuffled down to level one of the building, but no one was evacuated.
No one left the building except for one man who had suffered smoke inhalation. He was hospitalized.
The Evacuation Plan is quite clear that the Assembly Point was Lincoln Square Park. But no one was assembled there.

So for the many #Medevac refugees released from detention 6 months ago on 6 month bridging visas, these need to be renewed. But the application process requires @AlexHawkeMP and/or @karenandrewsmp to ‘lift the bar’ and allow them to submit the applications. 1/
Are the ministers so incompetent, irresponsible and unprofessional that they will allow the bridging visas to lapse before allowing these people to renew???
#auspol
Let’s be clear that the process is so convoluted that a lawyer is required in each and every application. 2/
Let’s also be clear that these people can’t legally work without a visa, so government ministers #HomeAffairs #Immigration are putting livelihoods at stake. Remember also that refugees on these bridging visas cannot access any #Centrelink or public housing. 3/

#HomeAffairs | The Minister of Home Affairs, Aaron Motsoaledi, is set to this home affairs office in Pretoria.

There is little social distancing as people avoid queuing in the rain.
The minister has arrived.
#HomeAffairs | Motsoaledi says everyone should be sanitized when they enter.

Dear @comcare_gov_au,
I have recently received a response to a #FOI request in relation to the #Comcare investigation into #mould at the #Nauru RPC. Reviewing my original email to yourself in 2018, I feel I may not have made one aspect clear enough.
1/
I would appreciate it if you could clarify whether the incident of a contracted mould inspector (microbiologist) being asked to remove his PPE for the inspection and consequently becoming sick, was part of the @comcare_gov_au investigation into the mould issue
2/
...in the tents at the RPC on #Nauru or was treated as a separate investigation.
The FOI response I received on the 5th of June 2020 in relation to MC00004067, has plainly stated that Comcare never interviewed Dr Cameron Jones, the microbiologist in question.

No lockdown in #Myanmar for now over #COVID19 #coronavirus. But yet ANOTHER committee formed to deal with virus. This time, headed by VP Myint Swe, ex-#Yangon Chief Minister, ex-military general. New committee has 10 members including #defence #homeaffairs #labour #communications
Remember some 2 weeks ago, #Myanmar had formed a national #COVID19 #coronavirus committee led by #AungSanSuuKyi herself when at that time she maintained the nation has no confirmed cases of the virus. Today, the country sees 15 cases with 1 death just reported today (March 31) ImageImageImageImage
So what's the difference between new #COVID19 #coronavirus committee led by #Myanmar #VicePresident Myint Swe & the one headed by defacto leader #AungSanSuuKyi, also looking to tackle the #pandemic? And committee under #VP Myint Swe will report to #SuuKyi or direct to #President? Image

If the situation deteriorates and the effected state cannot handle the response, they can request federal assistance under the Australian Government Disaster Response Plan (#COMDISPLAN). #ausfires #miltwitter More here: homeaffairs.gov.au/emergency/file… 3/6
