JUST BEFORE WE PROTEST THE OUTCOME OF #NIGERIADECIDES2023

By Chima Christian

As initially warned, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has delivered what many Nigerians have come to describe as a “sham.” All careful analysis pointed us to this endpoint. Image
Again, I am more disappointed with the leadership of the opposition political parties, their presidential candidates and campaign councils than I am with INEC about this charade of an election.
We provided them with timely data-backed evidence of the plans to subvert the wishes of ordinary Nigerians. We also suggested strategies to avert them. They ignored stone-cold data and chose to anchor their plans - the entirety of them - on mere assurances.

1. Understandably, a lot of media attention was focused on two main aspects of @YIAGA’s report on #NigeriaDecides2023 (that can - and should - be read here: yiaga.org/yiaga-africa-p……)
2. There was the deep disappointment at @inecnigeria’s logistical shortcomings & failure to live up to its #IReV promises; there was also YIAGA Africa’s finding that the results declared for Imo and Rivers were inconsistent with its parallel vote tabulation (PVT) projections.
3. @YIAGA could make that assertion because it had observers in all 774 Local Government Areas and used PVT which allows it to project the results to be expected.
(I hope no one is surprised that it was Imo and Rivers? Let's see if INEC upholds or corrects those results.)

This is a huge leap, but does anyone out there have the name of a company that manufactures the BiModal Voter Accreditation System #BVAS that #INEC uses for #IReV in #Nigeria elections? All I've found is "tech startups" helped modernize

#NigeriaDecides2023 #INECElectionResult
for those extremely confused, Nigeria used a new vote reporting system and had bad reporting delays. Not the main point of my piece but weird I can't find a manufacturer for the biometric system, governments rarely make such things in house. It should be a contractor.
for the record, I have no reason to think anything nefarious went on, it's just strange I can't find the name of the contractor, and will otherwise be publishing that I couldn't discover who made them [its only a minor component of my story]

1. The great thing about an Election Petition is than one has to condescend upon the particular.
So @PeterObi will produce the evidence to back his claim.
But if he’s saying he WON, it’s no longer a matter of cancelling or re-running. It’s about the maths.

3. Doing election petitions in 1983, if one was challenging figures, one needed results sheets signed by the presiding officer, the party agents and the police or other security personnel at the relevant level.

Bola Tinubu has just been declared Nigeria's President-elect. Here's my pick of academic readings for understanding who he is and what his record as former Governor of Lagos State might mean for Africa's biggest democracy:
[thread]

#NigerianElections #NigeriaDecides2023
Tinubu ran on his record of 'transforming' Lagos whilst he was governor from 1999-2007. This agenda was continued by his protegé, Babatunde Fashola, who took over from 2007-2011.

Michael O. Filani describes this in his @CitiesAlliance report from 2012:
citiesalliance.org/sites/default/…
Crucially, the literature on the 'Lagos Model' raises three key contradictions.

i) The tension between reformist, often technocratic policy making, and the use of state power to build new business and patronage networks.

LAGOS, Nigeria, February 27 - Which way Nigeria?

1./ In 2023 elections have still not evolved to the point where we dispassionately vote competence because we want a better society.

Aren’t we tired of being citizens of a country which despite having a surfeit of super talents,
2./ natural resources, and highly intelligent people are treated like pariahs by the international community because our country remains underdeveloped for no reason other than poor leadership choices?

When will we collectively choose leaders who don’t come with enough baggage
3./ to sink the Titanic?

Leaders who will be deliberate about working for our collective good? Who will be committed to making the green passport a desirable document?

When will enough be enough? And we will decide to dispassionately elect leaders

We're all different demographically, politically and ethnically, but whoever we support, I trust I can assume that we all just want a better Nigeria. Whatever happens from here on, this is the time to bury the hate, insults and bitterness. Tomorrow we vote. Please, shun violence.
Go out and exercise your franchise understanding that not everyone agrees with you and there are a million and one reasons why your favourite candidate may or may not win. Commit to supporting the winner knowing that be you as smart as Solomon, the majority is wiser still.
Everyone just wants a government and country that works for them. Our choices are different, but our desire is singular. You cannot hate your government and claim to love your country, neither can your candidate be the ONLY good one. May God bless you and may He bless Nigeria.
