The IRS will do your taxes for you (if that's what you prefer): After years of expensively purchased delay, Turbotax and its fellow tax-profiteers are losing the fight to make you pay them to tell the government what it already knows.

Are you on #pain medications or use #opioids? If so, and you do a ketogenic diet, you may find you are more sensitive to opioids. (1/6)
Now, this was a mouse study. And you are not a mouse. I am aware of that. But I am not surprised by the findings of this study. Why? (3/6)

Let's break down #TheGreatOpioidLie.
1-"Over-prescribing was the cause of the opioid crisis."
First according to the Medical Board of CA, there is no legal definition of 'overprescribing'.
Second, it is a THEORY that the mandate to treat pain led to the overdose crisis

2-The Gov's own stats disprove the access theory. As access to RX meds declines we continued to see a steady increase in drug deaths.
Seems something else might have been a the heart of why we saw a rise in ODs and continue to see record numbers of PEOPLE dying.
#ChornicPain
3-Could it have been the collective trauma we all experienced after 9/11, then we sent our loved ones off to war, and they were being sent home with broken bodies, then the financial collapse, outsourcing of manufacturing jobs, people losing homes, retirement, investment accts... Image

I don't say it often outside of @maiasz reporting;
but the New York Times did a great job covering this story,

nytimes.com/2023/03/13/us/… #opioids #chronicpain #disability #adhd #medtwitter
Not a fan of the headline cuz it downplays the story
issue isn't that some folks cannot get Ritalin

the big story is that Federal Prosecutors forced an unconstitutional measure on distributors to curb drug access to pharmacies regardless of how it harms patients
What is happening is what I warned you about; trying to fix a drug crisis by withholding access

Pharmacies are being forced to cut patients off after they divvy out a certain number of drugs to the local populace.

& then every other patient gets screwed

There's no friendly way to put this:

The new CDC Opioids Guidelines are a farce when it comes to saving patients' lives.

usatoday.com/story/opinion/… #chronicpain #opioids #opioidcrisis #fentanyl #lawenforcement #drugs #politics #health #disability #disabled #cancer #addiction #pain
The CDC 2022 update is not meant to reform the guidelines

It's meant to absolve the CDC of guilt & wash its hands of an opioid prohibition & crisis it helped create

usatoday.com/story/opinion/… @elizableu @yashar @chadfelixg @conor64 @lhfang @stillgray @joerogan @TaylorLorenz
Christopher Jones, acting director of CDC’s National Center for Injury Prevention & Control

Said the guideline is about "improving the lives of patients living with pain.”

Then why did the CDC push further & deeper restrictions against patients?

Research says most people who use drugs are men. And many people think there is no reason to involve #women in #drugpolicy. But they are mistaken. The drug phenomenon is not #gender neutral.

Why a #feminist perspective is essential 👉💡🧵...
Due to gendered norms and notions of #femininity that are incompatible with #drugs use, the complex realities of women are often ignored. However, a growing movement is trying to shift this perspective to better understand the unique challenges that female users face.
Let’s have a closer 👁️👁️ why…

#Women who use drugs are often judged because they don’t comply with socially constructed #norms and challenge the traditional role of women.

reason we're seeing opioids lawsuits being overturned is not about the validity of what the companies have done but how they've been sought after by AG's & litigators

TDLR: Public Nuisance lawsuits are IMO garbage that works by intimidation & not merit

reason.com/2019/08/27/the…
Public Nuisance lawsuits mean plaintiffs don't have to prove intent or specific ways that the defendants' actions led to damages

good scare tactics for an issue w/ lots of public feeling & can push judges & juries to do things they might otherwise not

How do you spell Government Waste?

NEPO!

@kennethpolite of @TheJusticeDept side stepped questions from journalist inquiring as to the costs involved in the new Strike Force.

The @DEAHQ has documented that diversion of RX is rare. Only 1%

justice.gov/opa/pr/justice…
are diverted.

Yes... that's where the Millions of taxpayer's dollars are going!

🧐How coincidental that this strike force targeting physicians & pharmacists was announced the day following the Supreme Court voted 9-0 that the Government must prove beyond a reasonable doubt
that the defendant knowingly or intentionally acted in an unauthorized manner.

The ruling is explained here by @RonChapmanAtty

Would it surprise anyone to learn that @kennethpolite was involved in the #Ruan case?

After years of my daughter receiving care at our local #hospital that is often based on #bias & is often subpar I have begun to reach out to different state agencies. The experiences that my daughter has had to experience over the last several years has been surreal 1/

A thread: if there's a throughline in my reporting over the last 5 years it's leaders putting abstract ideas above the safety lives well-being of children...and people still following those leaders and organizations. Putin clearly believes his ideas about Russian identity... 1/

More physical and mental health problems and disability isn’t that the role of medicine and Medicine? Is there supposed to be a risk VS reward calculation in Medicine? We use c19 vaxx bc risk for severe side effects is tiny but the benefits are life saving. My risk of OD = <1%…
Risk that I’ll be dead by years end by MAiD or my own hand? 90% Tbc it isn’t just adequate opioids that I’m being denied. Health Canada opiate policy and propaganda has so biased drs and pushed them to deny clinical judgment and compassion that I can’t get any healthcare anymore.

In it, we use several excerpts from a recently published news release by PROP, given the distorted reality it represents

We challenge the view that continued reductions in prescription opioids will be the “key to ending this [overdose] epidemic”…

As if cutting prescriptions in half throughout the US the past decade has resulted in reduced overdose deaths 🧐🧐🧐 Image

A long🧵🧵🧵
1/ The issue in these cases is when a medical provider who prescribes controlled medications like opioids for pain or an opioid use disorder (but also meds for seizure disorder, depression, ADHD, etc.) can be held criminally liable for drug distribution.
2/ In simple terms, it comes down to when a doctor is acting as a drug dealer versus as a clinician. But the devil is in the details re: how the relevant statute (Controlled Substances Act) and regulation are interpreted.
