Catching up on the #PandoraPapers? In the week since our 600+ journalism partners began publishing revelations from history's biggest offshore data leak, we’ve seen fallout all around the world.

Here’s a quick walk-through of key findings. #SundayRead 🧵
bit.ly/3DhIsGP
First of all, what do we mean by “offshore”?

The #PandoraPapers kick the door open on a secretive financial system that allows the wealthy and well-connected to set up covert companies across borders in tax havens, where the ownership of money and assets can be easily hidden.
🌴 In popular imagination, the offshore system is often seen as a far-flung cluster of palm-shaded islands.

The #PandoraPapers show that the offshore money machine operates in every corner of the planet, including the world’s largest democracies. bit.ly/3DhIsGP

Thread: The disinformation machine you've never heard of, how Christian fundamentalists brainwash millions

A short version of this very important #SundayRead by @anelsona flux.community/anne-nelson/20…
While there has been a lot of attention in recent years devoted to white nationalist and fake news websites, their audiences are dwarfed by Christian fundamentalist media companies.

Almost all of them are linked to a secretive group called the Council for National Policy
These media outlets, which are covered in even greater detail in @anelsona's book "Shadow Network," are constantly promoting a message of Christian supremacism and die-hard Trump fandom to tens of millions of Americans daily bookshop.org/books/shadow-n…

Excited to hear it directly from the man himself. #SundayRead Image
“Couldn’t believe I was rejected by Harvard. I called the dean myself and demanded he let me in because I was going to be a super star. He declined. I was on the verge of tears at the prospect of settling for Yale”

Schwarzman recalling how he got his first job on Wall Street.

In #SouthAfrica too, healthcare providers are denying pregnant women - many of them as a result of rape - access to the safe abortion they need, request and are legally entitled to. @drtlaleng has had enough. Read her op-ed:

My favorite: @SidrahMay wrote about being a visibly Muslim woman in Canada as a "stereotype-busting-Muslim-girl PR job" she's taken on since childhood. The exhaustion she so beautifully describes feels familiar. In @thismagazine

Here are some #SundayRead recommendations on #feminism, #WomensRights & #Africa, with an unapologetic bias for pieces by #Afrifem writers.

Every African #feminist who's shared their journey with me has spoken of their relationship with their mother. Is that why @NanaYBrantuo's beautiful piece stole my heart? Or is it because I too have been called "too much" so often?
