Can it be called news if it’s billions of years from happening? Actually the new result is the gorgeous discovery by @Sydney_Uni of 2 previous galaxy collisions in Andromeda’s past making it even larger for the one with us!
The infalling smaller galaxies into Andromeda arrived in two vastly different directions, which is a prediction of the cosmic web where galaxies and gas flow along filaments into intersection points or nodes - and those nodes contain galaxies like Andromeda!
