In October, the #ZimKingston spilled 109 shipping containers near the WA/BC border. Debris has floated north ever since, onto beaches on Vancouver Island, then Haida Gwaii, then SE Alaska, and most recently the Kenai Peninsula (top of the Gulf of AK).

#CCGLive - A Coast Guard overflight of the #ZimKingston at 11:30 today shows smoldering but no visible flames in the containers. However, firefighters may find some active fire in the containers once they are able to board the ship.
#CCGLive : 6 firefighters were able to board the #ZimKingston last night as well as 7 crew from the ship. The Salvage Master and team will assess the situation today and estimate it may take several days to fully suppress smoldering and fires inside the containers. Image

#CCGLive: CCGS Cape Calvert and CCGS Cape Naden have evacuated 16 people from the container ship M/V #ZimKingston near Victoria, #BritishColumbia after a fire broke out in ten containers earlier today.
The fire remains a dynamic event and an Incident Command Post has been set up to manage the situation. Responders are mobilizing to both fight the fire and recover the containers that broke away from the ship on Friday.
An Emergency Zone has been set up for 1NM around the ship while fire fighting operations are underway. Currently there is no safety risk to people on shore, however the situation will continue to be monitored.

#BREAKING: A fire broke out this morning on the same ship, MV Zim Kingston, that lost around 40 containers due to rough weather west of Juan de Fuca Strait yesterday. The Canadian Coast Guard tells me the fire broke out in the damaged containers on board. @CHEK_News
@CHEK_News The ship is currently anchored in Constance Bank. Coast Guard says their Victoria station lifeboat is standing by near the ship to assess the situation as it unfolds and act as a safety vessel. @CHEK_News

Hearing rumors that the ZIM KINGSTON, the container ship that lost ~40 containers off the coast of Vancouver is currently fighting a fire that was caused by 2 hazmat containers that were hanging on the side of the ship. Its currently anchored by Victoria. A🇨🇦 CG vessel is nearby.
According to radio traffic, 2 tug boats with fire fighting capability and fire fighting equipment on board have been tasked with helping put out the fire.
