Finally, the #GoldacreReview is published! (During Parliamentary Easter holidays, mid-ping-pong on the #HealthAndCareBill...)

It's 221 pages - each PDF page is a double page spread - so this could be a lo-o-o-ong [Thread].

Here goes...
First point to note, in the Terms of Reference (p5), is that this is about "access to #NHSdata by #researchers, #commissioners, and #innovators" - i.e. #Planning and #CommercialReUse - so it is directly relevant to the operation of millions of people's #NationalDataOptOuts... Terms of reference for the review 1. How do we facilitate a
"185 wide-ranging recommendations for us to explore", says @sajidjavid (p6). Gulp! Time for some coffee...

"systems that ensure #underrepresented groups are well represented" may (partly) refer to this "landmark review", which got off to a slow start:

gov.uk/government/new… The far-reaching independent review into potential ethnic bi

6 weeks since my appendix tried to kill me, including an inter-hospital transfer on inotropes, I have learned some hard truths about serious illness that will inform my practice going forward.

A thread.

The tweets I posted at the time? I have no memory of writing them. Ditto this text exchange with hubby👇.

I apparently signed a consent form for the operation. No memory of that either. In future I'm not going to equate 'apparently oriented' with competence.

Being a suspected #COVID19 case (at that point I was septic with no clear cause) was incredibly hard on family. Hubby was not allowed to accompany me in the ambulance or visit. He was told to stay home and wait with the kids in case they all had to quarantine.

If you have positional power and want to know if #CultureChange is happening, don't ask peers. You have to ask the least powerful people in the team. 1/5
And don't ask them yourself. In teams with poor culture, team members have learnt to tell leaders what they want to hear.

So the teams with poor cultures are, paradoxically, the ones where leaders will be told that they have a good culture. A great culture. The BEST. 2/5
So as a leader, what can you do?

I find a trusted go-between.Their role is critical. They must be trusted by the least powerful team members, but crucially, they must be *able to speak to you frankly, no matter how ugly the responses, without risking their own job*. 3/5

Over the past few weeks of #covid19 confinement - or #shelteringinplace as they say in the US - we have been able to witness (and sometimes support) a number of organizations in their move to #remotework
We believe our experience with implementing #NWoW - #futureofwork in North America - is a helpful lens in seeing both the challenges and changes organizations face when switching to #remotework... some observations:
Organizations that are technologically well-equipped for #remotework before #covid19 were obviously advantaged, but... it was much easier for organizations that were already culturally fit/ready! #orgculture

Was in pre-op for an emergent take back over the weekend. My chief arrived & in the middle of her asking me (the intern) to put in orders for the case, the male anesthesia resident asked if she was the pre-op nurse. She cordially explained she was the chief surgical resident 1/10
She was clearly the leader of our team yet had to defend her position as such. As a man, I often get benefit of the doubt of being “the Dr.” even when I was a short-coated medical student. As a new intern, people assume I’m in charge but I’ve only been a resident for 40 days 2/10
I have never had to defend my position on a team. This stands in stark contrast to the many women physicians who have to justify their role each & every day. I often wonder if I would have the same amount of patience as my female colleagues, & the answer is an easy no 3/10

OK - here goes! My take on the legal issues around #BIM and #winfieldrock...
#BIM has huge potential for improving collaboration, particularly early stage, in #construction and thereby reducing #disputes and #performancegap
Problem is the limited take-up particularly among private sector – reasons include lack of knowledge (of how to use and of benefits), lack of standardisation (in what BIM means and in proprietary programmes used, although moving towards #Revit – barrier for SMES)
