The field of #evalution has NEVER recognized a woman of color from the Americas among its theorists/founders, whether thru its prof assoc's theory awards program, flagship journal's oral histories, or sacred Evaluation Theory Tree

Numerous graduates of doc programs in #eval are shocked to learn AFTERWARDS that members of the global majority have been formally trained in evaluation at the doctoral level, publishing about it, practicing it & actively engaged in its US prof assoc since its inception.

New blog post: “Evidence of Systemic Racism (Part II), or, How to Talk with Your Systemic Racism Denier” tgarchibald.wordpress.com/2020/07/12/evi… A thread with some highlights:
This is a clarion call for those who would deny the existence of systemic racism to either refute the evidence with other evidence, or change their minds. I hope this can save you, dear reader, some time, effort, and headaches, any time you encounter a racism denier.
To date I have likely not convinced any systemic racism deniers that systemic racism exists; due to belief preservation, it is really hard to do. But if some white people learn a bit from this, and some BIPOC colleagues can have a day off from explaining these basic facts, good.

I've been a little quiet lately. I sincerely apologize for my general silence pretty much all of my life.

I have been working on understanding my white privilege and the white dominant culture we live in for the past year or so. It's been a long and ongoing journey.

It started with my job talk when a student asked how I incorporate social justice into my #eval work. My knee jerk reaction was, "I don't."

And it was true.

I never internalized any of that into my #eval. I originally blamed my education, but the fault was my own.
But since then, I've been learning and unlearning. Grappling with ideas. Reading books, watching webinars, watching TV/movie shows, following social justice and equity focused organizations on social media.

I've learned a lot, & mostly that the learning is not enough.

For the last few years, I've worked in evaluation, a field that does a LOT of surveys. Now that I use R, I've figured out ways to automate the tedious process of getting people to actually fill out surveys. #rstats #eval #evaluation rfortherestofus.com/2019/07/using-…
Props to @jimhester_ for the gmailr package (gmailr.r-lib.org) used in this post, as well as @JennyBryan for her tutorials (github.com/jennybc/send-e…) on using it.
If you're just getting with gmailr, @sharon000 has a great article to help you out: infoworld.com/article/339870…

Alors, je vous présente… our findings about (1) what academic #research already exists about UK charities & #philanthropy and (2) the topics on which UK charities & donors say that they would like more academic #research.

2/ Combined, the results are a ‘gap analysis’ which can inform future research. Both studies were funded by @Charity_Futures, re its work establishing an Institute of Charity at Oxford University. But the findings can inform the agenda of any researchers in this terrain.

You don’t need a PhD in statistics or years of coding experience to learn R. Anyone can learn the most powerful tool for data analysis and visualization. I just launched @rfortherest to help the rest of us learn #rstats. Learn more at rfortherestofus.com
For those wondering, @rfortherest builds on what we created with R for Eval. I've decided to do R training as a solo project and expand the focus beyond just #eval. Folks in public health, social work, and auditing, I'm coming for you!
If there are other fields that haven't embraced the gospel of #rstats and could benefit from being converted, please let me know!
