The fallacy of #fomites.
There has been a lot of attention devoted to the potential transmission of #COVID19 by fomites, a lot of money and time spent on "sanitizing" surfaces, and on marketing various chemicals, treatments, etc. 1/N
While generically, cleanliness is good, I am convinced that the vast amount of these efforts when targeted at #COVID19 are misguided and represent more #hygienetheatre than true prevention. 2/N
First, I have yet to see any reports of transmission that convincingly demonstrate a fomite route (as opposed to a couple of cases reports that allege this as a diagnosis of exclusison, while failing to consider more plausible routes such as aerosols). 3/N

Potser els virolegs ambientals (o jo) no hem explicat bé això de #coronavirus i temperatura. Són els virus sensibles a les temperatures d'estiu (i a la insolació i la radiació associada)? Sí. Són els #coronavirus en general i #SARSCoV2 sensibles a temperatures de 30-37ºC o més?
Taxativament sí, no els hi poso els articles; al meu TL els poden trobar. Però, és un procés q necessita el seu TEMPS (hores, dies) i afecta bàsicament a superfícies i fomites i també als exsudats....però les #fomites MAI van ser un vector principal de transmissió de #SARSCoV2...
i els exsudats, les microgotes, no tenen massa temps per patir les condicions ambientals si...som a 30 cm del company/a a la terrassa del bar, o dins; o a una barbacoa, o ens toquem, abracem, i ens exhalem l'un a l'altre...aquí no hi ha temperatures q hi jugui cap paper pq no...

bigger danger. We wear a mask to protect ourselves from droplets hitting our face when people talk. #coronavirus is not an airborne virus in the traditional sense so we are not wearing it to stop #COVID19 itself so stop with the "these arent N95 masks!" BS. All we are trying to
do is trap particles that may be contaminated with #COVID19 long enough for us to take off the mask. The main issue here is a lack of understanding of #fomites. These are areas that can hold on the the virus and it can remain viable for a period of time until someone comes along

#Thread on symptomatic, pre-symptomatic, asymptomatic #transmission. A symptomatic #COVID19 case is a patient who developed signs & symptoms compatible with #SARSCoV2 #coronavirus #infection. Symptomatic transmission refers to transmission from a person experiencing symptoms.
Data from published epidemiology & virologic studies provide evidence that #COVID19 is PRIMARILY transmitted from symptomatic people to others in close contact through respiratory droplets, by direct contact with infected persons or by contact with contaminated objects & surfaces
This is supported by experiences shared by WHO technical partners & presentations by Ministries of Health. Data from studies that have collected repeated samples from patients show that #COVID19 shedding is highest in upper respiratory tract early in the course of the disease.
