NERMIN DIVOVIĆ was killed on 18 November 1994. He was murdered by the #Serbian sniper when he was returning home with his mother Dženana & sister Dženita. His mother was shot in the stomach, bullet went through and hit Nermin in the head.

Nermin was 7 years old.

He is lying in the Sniper Alley street, the UN fire­fighters who tried to help him are standing nearby, and in the version of the photograph that circulated most widely, the UN firefighters are shown in action, seemingly trying to block the area around Nermin.

Pilot Harold Mathew O'Leary was indeed rescued from the water & stayed in the Navy after the war. He had enlisted in 1939, was Aviation Pilot 1st Class by 1942, & went on to become LCDR. He died in an air crash in 1955, on approach to Hickham AFB. He was 34.

Today we held our annual Memorial Ceremony to honor the courageous CIA officers who died serving their country.

Four new, historic stars were added to the Memorial Wall; two honor officers whose names & contributions must remain secret.

The other two stars honor Lieutenant John W. Creech & Daniel C. Dennett, Jr., who perished in 1947 when their plane crashed in bad weather.

John & Daniel worked for the Central Intelligence Group (CIG)—the immediate predecessor to CIA.

OTD 1998: nearly simultaneous bombs blew up at US embassies in Nairobi, Kenya & Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. 224 people were killed, including a CIA officer, & more than 4,500 people were wounded.

10:30AM Nairobi, Kenya: first truck, loaded w 2,000 pounds of TNT, forced its way to back entrance of embassy. Despite a grenade & firearms attack, Kenyan guards & @USMC prevented access to building where it would have exploded in US Embassy basement.
Instead, terrorist detonated the bomb at a gate to the embassy. Explosion reduced much of the interior of the embassy to rubble. The secondary fragmentation from flying glass, internal concrete block walls, furniture, & fixtures caused most of the embassy casualties.

On FEB 5, 2003, Helge Boes – a special ops officer who had served in the CIA for 2 years – was killed in a training accident while in Afghanistan. At the time of his death, Helge was the 80th CIA officer in 56 years to die in the line of duty.

Billy Jack Johnson, a paramilitary & maritime ops expert, was a talented instructor known for his skill & expertise in unique specialties

FEB 1968, while serving in SE Asia, his vehicle was struck by enemy mortar

Norman Schwartz & Robert Snoddy were in an ambush during a mission to extract an agent with a snatch (or aerial) pickup from Manchuria in Communist China

Pilots Norman & Robert volunteered to fly their C-47 w a hook extended out the plane’s back door to snag a line between two upright poles on the ground. Agent would be connected to line by a harness. Once hook caught the line, agent would be snatched off the ground.

Two other CIA officers, John Downey & Richard Fecteau, were on board the plane to hoist the agent into the aircraft.

But unbeknownst to the team, they were about to fly into a trap – the agent on the ground had been turned by the Communist Chinese.
