BIAFRA REMEMBRANCE DAY MESSAGE

I spent a good part of my time yesterday, May 30, remembering our fallen heroes and the journey we have embarked on from the Civil War till this very day.
Ndi Igbo ni le, Ala Imo nwem, bikonu, #Ozoemena Image
The impact of the war still ravages us as a people, mentally and psychologically. I was a little boy during the war and lived through the horrific experiences until its end at the age of 7.
My father, Col. David Sunday Ogunewe (N/34) fought gallantly for Biafra and was the Military Adviser to the then Head of State of Biafra Gen Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu.

These memories come with pride reminiscing the courage that is innate in Ndi Igbo.

Peter "Okwute" Obi has reset the Nigerian Political trajectory. He empowers youth to take back their nation. He's become a true light & salt of the land. His values-based politics anchored on 4Cs have made dangerous & wicked bigots/bullies unravel in different sections of Nigeria Image
@ChimarokeNamani A few months ago, when you were positioning to be Atiku's VP, & later SP under BAT, I pointed out the need for Igbo political elite to retrace their steps & transform the region or face the wrath of Youth. Unprovoked, your hurled vitriol at me & even at Peter Obi
@ChimarokeNamani You insulted @EzeasorIje @Ifechideere & many others who simply held you and other badly-behaving Igbo politicians accountable. You taunted the youth and dared them to go out and vote you out if they could. And they've taken your suggestion and done exactly this👊

1. Brymo is a bigot, but he is no coward. However, Ogbeni Dipo is not only a bigot, he is a sniveling tiny coward. It became convenient for bigots to stoke ethnic tensions (one month to a very crucial election). But they have failed, they came too late. Nigerians are smarter now.
2. Take a liberty & read Peter Obi’s thread, he poured out his heart, all of it. As a 9 year-old in 1970, Obi quickly understood the Historical significance of 15th of January, 1970. Suddenly, the guns went silent, “No Victor, No Vanquished” sealed the Unity of a divided country.
3. In that long but very emotional thread, Peter Obi sounded so Presidential & classy. I don’t know how he does that. He wrote that Article himself, he had to. The man carried the stigma of a Coup that wasn’t his fault. He carried all the scrutinies & innuendos with great poise.

There is this calm and ease that envelopes me whenever I travel home. The moment I cross the Niger Bridge into Onitsha or seeing that old signpost saying welcome to Enugu from Benue, I know that I'm home and I relax. Home is where the heart is, after all

Now imagine a SE on fire
Ọsọ chụba mmadu from mgbago and beyond, where would you run to if we allow our brothers set our home on fire?

After the Biafran genocide, our elders declared #Ozoemena because anyị a ma anụrọ ọgụ ọzọ! They believed that ideologically, politically, economically and even
diplomatically, Ndigbo ga enwe mmeli. Hitler fought for a German domination of Europe and he lost. Today, a woman, Angela Merkel has won the battle for the Germans without firing a single gunshot! She has gotten everything Hitler wanted but for the subjugation of minority tribes.

Today as we celebrate #BiafraHeroesDay2020, we give honour to whom honour is due.

We say thank you & God bless you to all individuals and groups who contributed in one way or another in making 30th May of every year the date for #BiafraRemembranceDay.
@MaziNnamdiKanu & #IPOB popularised & energized #BiafraHeroesDay.

The organisation that first proposed #BiafraHeroesDay from the earliest available references I could find is a group known as the BIAFRA FOUNDATION based in the USA in the year 2002.
It must be admitted that Chief Ralph Uwazurike had already started the Movement For The Actualisation Of Biafra (MASSOB) in 1999 in Ijesha, Lagos.

The first available record of #BiafraHeroesDay event held in Nigeria was organised by Chief Ralph Uwazurike led MASSOB in 2004.

As long as there is no foundation of justice in #Nigeria, all kinds of agitation will continue. Essentially, we are all Biafrans...

53 years ago today, the military governor of the Eastern Region of #Nigeria, Colonel Emeka Ojukwu, declared the region as the independent Republic of #Biafra.

Most of the existing history will tell you that he took this action unilaterally, but that is incorrect.
4 days earlier, a consultative assembly made up of people in the 11 provinces of the Eastern region had by a majority voted to break away from #Nigeria following @NigeriaGov's reneging on the Aburi Accord of 5/1/1967, and the creation of 3 states out of the East on 5/5/1967.

IGBO & IGBO DENIERS

Igbo Bụ Igbo (Igbo is Igbo) But We Have Igbo Deniers

The grandfather & one of the earliest known #IgboDeniers is the acclaimed Ikwerre Writer from Aluu – Elechi Amadi (He schooled in Yoruba land & was a Nigerian soldier during the war).
He went to the Oputa Panel in 2004 & told the whole world that Ikwerre is not Igbo.

Later day Igbo Denying apostles include a certain Henry Okelue (@4eyedmonk) who is only known on Twitter where he claims that Anioma or Delta Igbo are not Igbo.

#IgboDeniers
#Ozoemena
The question is this. If Igbo bụ Igbo, what is the motivation of these #IgboDeniers? The simple chief answer is this. “Failure is an orphan”.

There are facts we've studied as Historians that many do not know

1)Opkoroko(stock fish) saved many children from death. The protein, iron and oil component cured their Kwashiokor. Red Cross brought them from Norway.

2)The unprepared Biafran army...
gave the Nig. Army a good run at the beginning. Under 3 years, they refined their Oil, built Bombs(Ogbunigwe), amoured vehicles and tanks, air bomber etc.
3)Young Biafran women pretended to be old, wore ragged clothes, rubber ashes, stayed by burning fire so that they may not be raped by the soldiers.
4)Nig. Soldiers entered the University of Nigeria Library and tore books and took them saying 'Na these books..

This is a thread of some of the notable people who fought (and died) on the side of Biafra.

Some of them weren't EVEN Igbo.

But they believed in the cause and gave everything to it.

Will start with: General Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu.

President and Leader of Biafra.
General Ojukwu before he died always said there was no need for a 2nd war over the agitation of Biafra. I agree with him.

This is why I have a problem with the way IPOB speaks about Biafra. This does not warrant the treatment they have gotten especially as they've been peaceful.
Bruce Mayrock.

Born May 6, 1949, and a 20 year old student of Columbia University, he took his own life for people whom he never met before on May 30, 1969.

He died after setting himself on fire in front of the United Nations Building to protest the atrocities that were being
