⭐️#NASA's #asteroid deflection test that saw it intentionally crash a #spacecraft into a space rock was a SUCCESS – shaving 33 minutes off the rock's orbit
dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/ar…
1. The #US #space agency's refrigerator-sized satellite managed to shave 33 minutes off the orbit of a 520ft-wide (160m) asteroid known as Dimorphos when it careered into it at 14,000mph (22,000km/h) in September last year.
2. That is nearly five times greater than predicted and more than 25 times the change in orbital period required for the mission to be considered a success.
Dimorphos orbits a much larger 2,550ft-wide (780m) object called Didymos 6.8 million miles from #Earth.

0/16 Just like the real #NASA Webb Telescope, I’m so big that I have to fold up to fit in my #rocket for launch and then unfold in #space. Follow this thread to see each step of my deployment throughout the coming days. bit.ly/LEGOJWST Image
1/16 Not long after I launch 🚀 into space, I need to deploy my solar array to keep the power flowing. My solar array folds flat, just like the real thing! bit.ly/LEGOJWST #solarpower
2/16 📡 Next I release my medium- and high-gain antennae so that I can #communicate better and send data to you. My antennae are gimbaled, allowing me to aim them directly at #Earth! 🌍 bit.ly/LEGOJWST

#PlanetaryProtection has an enormous impact on interplanetary #astrobiology mission design and execution. Check out the rest of this thread for a few case studies on how it has been implemented over the years!

During the #Apollo era, it was unknown whether life existed on the Moon. To prevent contamination of the Earth’s biosphere by lunar microbes, both astronauts and the samples they collected were subject to quarantine following return to Earth.

Following splashdown in the Pacific Ocean, Armstrong, Aldrin, and Collins were transferred to a camper-like mobile quarantine facility. From there, they were transported to Johnson Space Center, where they spent 3 weeks in quarantine.

🔥I JUST bought $300,000.00 in ASTRA ( $HOL ) STOCK!🔥

1/ It's a #SpaceX type company & I'm very excited!

Read the 61 thread post below with my notes on WHY I did it. 👇👇👇

>>AND RETWEET THIS, PLEASE.<<
2/ #ASTRA ($ASTR) currently trading under the #SPAC symbol $HOL (Holicity)

It is a space company the manufactures smaller rockets and #spacecraft to allow businesses to launch into space very quickly and cheaply, from anywhere in the world.
3/ I first bought 10K shares of $HOL last week at $15...

... an additional 7500 shares this morning in pre-trading @$20/share...

...for a total of $300,000 (actually $304,233 / I rounded the share prices.)

51 Years Ago Today-
We Choose to Go to the #Moon.
At 9:32 a.m. EDT on July 16, 1969, a Saturn V rocket carrying three American astronauts set off on a journey to land on the surface of the Moon. #Apollo #Space Image
Apollo 11 is pictured here at liftoff, with an American flag flying in the foreground. Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins were on their way to the Moon, riding nearly 7.6 million pounds of thrust from the first stage of the Saturn V.
The Apollo 11 astronauts spent thousands of hours in simulators and test vehicles in the years and months leading up to their mission.
Through the combined effort of over 20,000 companies, and over 400,000 NASA personnel, three humans were sent to the Moon.
