"Sex work is work" is not only misogynistic, but racist & classist as well.

A research by UNICEF found that 10% of young adolescent girls admitted to having transactional sex for sanitary pads in western Kenya. They have to do it because of period poverty & the shame, stigma...
& public health misinformation which surrounds menstruation.

During the COVID-19 lockdown, the number of pregnant teenagers in Kenya increased rapidly. The African Institute for Development Policy puts the number of teenage girls who became pregnant in the country between...
January & May at more than 150,000, with Nairobi recording nearly 12k pregnancies.

This was a result of transactional sex for sanitary pads, a shower, clean water, & food. Many parents don't send their daughters to school & marry them off at a young age to relieve pressure...

I feel no way or any form of #disrespect towards #TheQueen when I say this to the @RoyalFamily but I feel it's time now to #AbolishTheMonarchy as #thequeeniscoming to the end of her last years of life and #QueenElizabeth is no longer here to rule.

What is she thinking
will happen to her son #PrinceAndrew and @SarahTheDuchess after @NSPCC @PeterWanless @InquiryCSA who have excluded from #iicsa denying #victims more importantly #BlackWomen altogether, knowing Andrew and Sarah being very close with #EpsteinIsland
for whatever reasons as @Keir_Starmer repeats the same @actionfrauduk when head of @CPSUK to protect @ClarenceHouse #PrinceCharles #JimmySavileABritishHorrorStory the whole world is still focusing on as the @RoyalHistSoc @APFactCheck has proved over and over and over again

Recently, the Congressional Caucus on Black Women and Girls held a forum to call attention to missing Black women and girls called "Not My Girls."

“In 2020, nearly 100,000 Black women and girls were reported missing,”...
1/6 Image
U.S. Rep. Robin Kelly, told forum attendees, citing data from the National Crime Information Center. “That means that Black women made up a little more than one-third of all missing women reported last year, which is far higher than the population we account for nationally.
2/6
However, we do not hear about these girls’ and women’s cases.”

While the numbers are shocking and problematic, presenters at the forum argued that they likely don’t paint the whole picture because Black women’s cases often go underreported.

Black people,

I am a one of the few Black psychiatrists that exist in our nation and I have a message for us:

Yes we are strong.

But it is IMPOSSIBLE to be strong ALL THE TIME.

Telling someone else to ignore, pretend, or downplay sadness, anxiety, despair, and hopelessness does not help them.

Vice President @KamalaHarris is an integral part of the Biden Harris Administration and our Nation. She leads with grace, passion, and integrity. And while making History as the first Black woman, first woman , and first Woman of Color to serve as Vice President. (A thread)
VP @KamalaHarris also leads while being scrutinized and attacked in ways that no other person that have come before her has been scrutinized. We know what this is... and I promise you - it will not go unanswered.
In 2020 a wide group of Black women from came together - we witnessed what happens all too often: sexism, racism, and frivolous attacks - aimed at Black women and their leadership. We penned an open letter actionnetwork.org/petitions/open…)
Sadly this letter still is relevant today.

Black maternal health week has been declared between April 11-17th and is a serious and extremely sad truth regarding black mothers deaths, their pregnancy issues and accessibility #njcurj
Black moms are in a crisis. They are dying at 3-4 TIMES the rate of their white counterparts from pregnancy related issues. That’s just the beginning issue #blackmamasmatter
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention approximately 700 women die each year in the US as a result of pregnancy or delivery complications. Yet, black women are the most affected w/ a mortality rate of 37.1 deaths per 100,000 live births #njcurj

I want to recenter this #Tulane conversation on #DrDenner. Last night on Clubhouse we heard from students & previous residents who spoke to Dr. Denner’s brilliance, elegance, inspiration, advocacy, & power. It brought me to tears. As they expressed how much she meant to them 🧵
When we talk about the need for representation. This isn’t just about patient outcomes, disparities, & diversity. Our #BlackPhysicians are our champions. They are our means of finding safe spaces, while being in institutions that feel unsafe, toxic, and like terror to trainees 2/
When we enter classes and rooms, we look for those Black faces in leadership. We make eye contact seeking their non-verbal clues that let us know "they see US". We wait at the end of class just to say hello, to make sure we put ourselves on their radar. 3/

My pastoral counselor reminded me that “people don’t know the weight of their own stories”. So here is part of mine. On August 28, I had the most profound moment in my career as an educator. It was the 57th anniversary of the #MarchonWashington and #EmmetTill ‘s death. 1
I was asked by my Institution to incorporate the topics of bias and racial health disparities in my fundamentals of medicine class. I made the decision to show up fully as a Black woman in medicine. We had a candid discussion on racism in society, acknowledging what the day 2

Is anyone else afraid of the lack of black women voices in #longcovid conversations? If anyone knows how challenging it is to be heard by doctors, it’s us. From fibroids to infertility to cancers to endometriosis, we already have lived being disbelieved.
Prior to having #longcovid, I had been privileged in a sense. I had never had a health condition that wasn’t believed by medical professionals. But babyyy, since contracting #covid19, I’ve learned and lived this nightmare for five months.
You can’t be a smart, black woman while describing symptoms and challenges of #longcovid. It is NOT allowed. During a recent hospital stay, I argued with a doctor who told me that #covid19 didn’t cause neurological problems. He didn’t want to hear me.

Black women are dying while giving birth at an accelerating rate and no one is doing anything about it. When the discussion of reproductive justice takes place, people discuss abortion rights and birth control, but can we discuss morality rates! #njcurj #blackmoralityrate
Over the years, the medical field is improving with modern day technology, yet the morality rates of black women and children are still increasing. The problem cannot go away until we take into accountability these factors are because of racism. #njcurj #blackmoralityrate
For black women to stop dying during childbirth, there needs to be a change in the treatment of black women. Economic hardship, oppression, stress, prenatal healthcare and genetics are the main causes I believe effect the life of a black pregnant woman.

Two days ago, someone called my son the ‘N’word. He was on the school bus. My son called me while I was leading a meeting for the residency program to tell me. He is 10 yo. The other boy is also 10. (This is a thread...)
I excused myself from the meeting to talk him through it. He was in tears. He was confused. The boy asked him, “what are you going to do if I call you the ‘N’ word, then proceeded to blurt it out.
After consoling my son I helped him create a plan of action with which he was comfortable. I hung up the phone and my eyes welled with tears.

In the midst of this #KMichelle/#LilNasX/#WranglerJeans conversation about black people in Country music, I've heard several incorrect statements that I'd like to personally clear up. I'm glad everyone is excited and ready to be a fan and support, let's just have correct facts.
One incorrect statement that has been repeatedly made is that there hasn't been one black female to chart on the Country charts. That is NOT true. Here are the black women that have charted on @billboard in Country music:
Linda Martell was the first in 1969 with "Color Him Father"(she was also the first blk woman on the @opry. She was ironically signed to a record label called Plantation Records 😑)

@TheBeatWithAri You must be so desperate that you would give racist a platform. @MSNBC you contributed to the election of #RacistInChief, and you only care about filling your pocket.
With this administration’s atrocities, you choose to give NAZIS a platform

#MSMComplicit
Apparently @TheBeatWithAri and @MSNBC love to give Nazis a platform, because Brannon’s ideas can help reunite the kids separated from their parents and caged #WhereAreTheChildren
Apparently @TheBeatWithAri having White supremacist Bannon on will resolve police brutality on black people and the forgotten #BlackWomen #blacklivesmatter
