My teenage cousin just texted me a pic of him on the way to his first show choir competition & I am the proudest queer cousin-auntie ever! I’ve worked this kid’s whole life to encourage him to do whatever he wants, regardless of gender or sexuality norms. I think it’s working. 😭
The #gayagenda is less about making everyone gay & more about making it possible for anyone to be gay without fear. My queerness never scared me. The possibility of being rejected by Catholic friends & family for being queer, however, regularly filled me w/ terror as a teen.
