A pogrom took place in Sheikh Jarrah this evening, it lasted for hours. When Israeli forces intervened, they secured the perimeter to the aid of raiding settlers.
they used bullets, gas & water cannon against🇵🇸, while a State-Sponsored Pogrom took place uninterrupted inside SJ.
Same in the Old City of Jerusalem, where another pogrom took place, conducted in coordination between 🇮🇱 police & flag-waving 🇮🇱marchers.

All the videos I see from the Old City are settlers insulting & assaulting Palestinians INSIDE THEIR HOMES.

Police was aiding & abetting.
Last but not least, all journalists inside old city were harassed, some attacked & had objects thrown at them. I've seen plenty of evidence &got told by journo friends who had a press pass.

The videos again show 🇮🇱police aid & abet by allowing the violence to go uninterrupted.

I danced at the Western Wall on Jerusalem Day w/ fellow students from KBYeshiva in 1969 -- 53 y.a.
It's been a long tradition, but Jews were denied access before 1967.

I found this #Jerusalem "parade" from ~1915 when Jer'm was ruled by the Turks.
Jews were forcibly conscripted & marched into the Turkish Army. The army looted food & supplies from the Jews. (Ottoman Archives)

Jewish humiliation.
#JerusalemDay. Thread. 3/
With younger Jewish men drafted or in hiding, the Turks took out their rage against old Jewish men. The German officer who took these picture ~1915 captioned them "Jewish merchants" probably based on the anti-Semitic image of Shylock.
Jewish humiliation.

#JerusalemDay is supposed to be a day of celebration. But Palestinians had other plans in mind. Early morning they stocked piles of giant stones and metal bars, to use later today against visitors and policemen on #TempleMount and around #AlAqsa.
This is some raw footage from last night: piles of giant rocks around the #AlAqsaMosque compound.

I’m amazed how Palestinians are proud of this footage and actually shared it numerous times online.
This is a look from the inside of the #AlAqsaMosque courtyard: the giant stones and metal objects are being thrown by Palestinians at visitors at #TempleMount.

#JerusalemDay. #Jordan captured Jerusalem's Jewish Quarter in the 1948 war, expelled all Jews, & denied access to Jews to the Western Wall for 19 years, til 1967 Liberation.

Few know that there were many Jewish POWs taken to Jordan Desert.
Why wasn't it known? Maybe because these photos by @AP photographer Daniel De Luce taken in June 4, 1948 were miscaptioned as "Jewish Refugees Illegal."

Pic: Israel Koperlov, 1½ years of age, on the knee of his father, Chaim Koperlov awaiting sunset check by Legion guards.
More "Jewish Refugees Illegal" pictures. The first with an incredulous caption: "Legion guards with two orthodox Jews who preferred imprisonment in Trans-Jordan to going into Jewish-held area of Jerusalem, which is also still a battle zone on June 4, 1948."

Thursday night #Israel commemorates the anniversary of the Liberation of #Jerusalem in the 1967 War. The city was united after 19 years, and ALL religious sites were open to people of all faiths.
Traditional parades & celebrations will not take place due to Corona.

2/ Two more iconic pics of the liberation of #Jerusalem in 1967.
Rabbi Shlomo Goren, chief rabbi of the IDF, blew shofar at the Kotel and on the Temple Mount.
He was angry when DefMin Moshe Dayan gave the keys to the Mount to the Arab Waqf.

But Rabbi Goren was not finished! ImageImage
3/ Goren continued south to Rachel's Tomb, & then raced down to Hebron. His jeep got there before IDF tanks & infantry. He saw white flags everywhere & took the surrender from the mayor.

Every Israeli knows what the "Degel D'yo" was: the hand-painted flag raised in Eilat in 48. Image

#JerusalemDay next wk commemorating Jewish reunification of Jerusalem in 1967. When Allenby & Brits arrived on Hanukkah eve in 1917, a British officer brought a Torah scroll. The table next to him was for Hanukkah candles.
50 yrs before the 1967 liberation.
@americanzionism
One year later, Hanukkah eve 1918, Jews of #Jerusalem proclaimed #JerusalemDay to commemorate anniversary of their deliverance with prayers, Psalms, & special prayer for the King of England. This was a flyer "In Honor of Liberation Day" calling on synags & Yeshivot to participate
Allenby did not go to the Kotel on the day he accepted the surrender of Jerusalem. He was in the Old City for 15 minutes to read a proclamation & left, but the photographer who took the iconic pic of Allenby took the pics of Torah at the Kotel.

#JerusalemDay today, commemorating the reunification of the Holy City in the 1967 war on this Hebrew date.
It wasn't always like this.
The Jews were exiled from #Jerusalem in 70 CE when the Romans destroyed the Jewish Temple on the Temple Mount and took Jews to Rome as slaves.
Longed to return - "Next year in Jerusalem" was their prayer.
Some Jews never left the Holy Land, and they eked out a living over the years. But in recent centuries they began their return. Jews were a majority in #Jerusalem for at least 170 years.
