1. Why did Gulf kingdoms embrace Iran? When the #GulfArab states saw what happened in Iran over one #Kurdish woman who stood up to became the #Mideast version of Rosa Parks, they all panicked. Remember, the US lists as terrorists a group whose ideology seeks #genderequality.
2. That continued listing over an ideology we support is something @POTUS @VP and @SecBlinken need to explain. But in the interim, we are seeing the #Arab word suddenly embracing #Assad, a blood soaked chemical weapon-using, sociopathic dictator. Why?
3. Because he's the one they have tapped to eliminate the #Syrian #Kurds. And all the #misogynists cheer him as their standard bearer. And once the #SDF is gone and the #women once again relegated to second-class rights, they can get back to business

Turkey takes advantage of its privileged position with Moscow, Washington and Tehran- at Syria’s expense ejmagnier.com/2022/11/28/tur…
#BreakingNews:
The White House said: " #Turkey is under attack on its borders and inside its territory and has the right to defend itself".

This is a lesson to the YPG when the group relies on the #US occupation and doesn't fall back on the Syrian government in #Damascus.
YPG #Kurds (PKK Syrian branch) have already lost the Afrin Canton to #Turkey by refusing to handle north-west #Syria to the central government. YPG is losing more control of north-east Syria coz it doesn't belong to them but to Syria, they don't consider themselves part of.

Recently, the Islamic Republic in Iran has been trying to orient the public opinion widely and make them believe that the #Kurds are SEPARATISTS & TERRORISTS. But why?

#MahsaAmini #OpIran

On November 16th, the Islamic republic in Iran tried to send a clear message to protestors in #Khuzistan by opening fire in a bazaar in Izeh and calling that a “TERRORIST ATTACK”! Khuzestan is the most critical province economically and strategically,

for your information: #pkk attacks military targets in the rural southeast of #turkey. and kurdistan freedom hawks (tak)? tak hits military/police targets in cities. yesterday's bombing was aimed at innocent civilians, which fully rules out pkk and tak.
and ypg and ypj in #syria? that's, if possible, even bigger nonsense. they defend the autonomously administered regions in #syria, they don't do cross-border ops, only extremely occasionally retaliation at turkish military targets outside civilian areas in border provinces.
ask yourself: who profits from this #bombing in #istanbul? it's fully against the interest of the #kurds in #syria, they will actually be targeted now. this bombing is exactly what erdoğan needs: a reason to invade syria again.

strange piece about #kurdistan in #iraq. the 2017 referendum was a political calculation of the #barzani clan to distract from domestic problems and rally people around the flag, the clans in charge are extremely nepotist and corrupt, and not progressive. blogs.lse.ac.uk/mec/2022/11/11…
the #kurdistan region in #iraq is *not* a model of democracy, and also not of religious freedom: christians, yezidis or others who don't align with the ruling #clans and mainly the #barzani clan (posing as political party #kdp) have nothing to say.
whenever i think of #kurdistan in #iraq breaking away as just one piece of a much larger kurdistan, i can't stop but thinking of what repercussions it may have for #kurds elsewhere in authoritarian states. ultimate repercussion, i mean, as an echo from history.

1. IMO, #Turkey cannot block #Finland or #Sweden from becoming @NATO members.

The NATO treaty Article I requires unanimous agreement to "invite any other European state . . ."
2. In Madrid, the NATO members unanimously "invited" Sweden and Finland to become members. There was a side "tri-partite" agreement between and among Turkey, Finland and Sweden" regarding the Turkish war on the #Kurds but the accession invitation did not condition
3. the unanimous invitation upon performance of that agreement. Therefore, IMO, nothing Turkey does now can prevent other NATO members granting Article 5 protections to unanimously "invited" Sweden and Finland. Turkey could still refuse to ratify the treaty as to the new members

How much is #Ukraine similar to #Syria?

Back in 2016. power of Bashar Al-#Assad was on his last legs. Insurgents took over the almost entire country, leaving him with roughly 15% of land under government control.

Then #Russians came. Slowly but methodically, they started to bombard insurgents, which we can call a conglomerate of various ideological and interest groups, including designated terrorists such as Jabhat Al Nusra and #ISIS.

reuters story about how #erdogan tamed #turkey's newsrooms. it boggles the mind why #kurdish #media are not even mentioned, despite them playing a big role in getting important stories out. #journalism reuters.com/investigates/s…
it's an institutionalized story from @reuters. example: if you check which papers don't get state advertising anymore as a financial punishment, you won't stumble upon #kurdish #media because they never got it in the first place - and would refuse it. #journalism
also the piece lacks historical perspective. it only says '... the turkish mainstream #media, once a more lively clash of ideas'. not really. some reporters have covered real stories about the #kurdish issue but the editorial lines always followed the state narrative - willingly.

Turkey's leaders are taking a break from enabling #Russia against #NATO and ethnic cleansing Syria’s #Kurds to launch absurd claims and empty threats against Greek islands. We take a look at the painful history of Turkish rule on one of them: a thread on #Chios from #theHELC 1/10
The history of the Greeks in Chios goes back more than 3,000 years reaching to #Minoan and #Mycenaean times. Chios is the most likely birthplace of #Homer and had its own coins and democratic parliament by 600 BC. Its famous wine was exported from the Black Sea to #Egypt 2/10

An article published in @hsfi with entitled "Sweden was the first western country to list the #PKK as a terrorist" and explains the reasons behind listing PKK, but without mentioning that the information was false and the truth behind it has been revealed long time ago.
Unfortunately, most journalists and analysts make the same "mistake" when writing about #Kurds and misinform their readers. Because the western media, when talks about Kurdish issues, use the Turkish state media as their source.
One of the false facts they mostly use is the Pinarcik case. @hsfi analyst says "The Pinarcik massacre is one of many #PKK attacks that the Australian Parliament lists as the reason why the PKK has been put on the country's list of terrorist organizations."

There's been much speculation about an imminent #Turkey intervention in north #Syria (another one) 🧵

The rationale behind such a move would be threefold:
1. The Kurdish threat
2. Electoral tactics (which might backfire)
3. Revisionist plans-strategic leverage re #Syria's future
Can #Turkey go ahead? The short answers is "yes". The long answer is "it's complicated".

If previous interventions are any indication, two things we know: 1. TR prepares the ground diplomatically and 2. remains flexible during operations, negotiating the outcome.
A Turkish intervention would most likely mean that Ankara got the "green light" from #Russia and/or #US. A move west of Euphrates would mostly need the former; east of Euphrates, both.

In exchange, #Turkey would have to compromise as well vis-a-vis it's ideal objectives.

It's very complicated now for #Shitte parties. They should agree on a candidate to form the government however all Shitte parties combined got fewer seats than Sadr. Maliki seems to seek Sadr's approval with conditions.
Besides the ongoing meetings, #Maliki is in talks with #Khanjar to form an alliance along with other #Shitte parties except #Sadr. Maliki hopes #Kurds and #Sunnis will not reach an agreement and join his attempts to form the government. #FarAway
