"One second you start morning rounds to get to know the patients, immediate call comes from third unit about a patient collapsing, you run to revive, half way through arranging medicines, the next patient's spo2 falls to 35%, call for help. (1/9) ImageImageImageImage
Once done half way, other doctor takes over & you shift to 35% spO2, arrange and pull a BIPAP machine, administer steroids, prone the patient and he's stable within one second of which another patient collapses and you're unable to revive despite best efforts. (2/9)
Just within another second, another patient wants to remove BIPAP as he wants water, the patient next to him suddenly starts murmuring words you can understand as his sugar is too high to be normal and insulin must be given. (3/9)

How many times did Team @NYULangone save my life? Probably in the 1.5-2.0 range.

(a) When I came to the ER having trouble breathing from #Coronavirus aka #Covid19 and they put me on oxygen ASAP: 0.3 (not sure I would necessarily have died then & there).
(b) When they gave me an emergency intubation, put me on a ventilator, then successfully extubated me six days later: 1.0. This is a solid score -- it was like something out of "ER" or "Chicago Hope" -- and why ventilators are so crucial. #Covid_19
(c) General management of #coronavirus-caused respiratory problems: 0.4. (I'm 44 and generally healthy, but I did have asthma as a kid plus occasional exercise-induced asthma and bronchitis as an adult, which probably made me more susceptible to #Covid19.)

The latest installment in #LatsCovid19Journal by yours truly, @DavidLat aka #CoronaBoy:

"How To Be A Good Patient."

#Coronavirus #Coronavirus2020 #healthcare #HealthcareHeroes #Covid19 #Covid_19
I'll use this acronym (partly because I could really use some Percocet right now for rib-cage pain from my cough): PERCOS.

#LatsCovid19Journal #Coronavirus #CoronaVirus2020 #healthcare #HealthcareHeroes #Covid19 #Covid_19
"P" stands for "Positive." It's a cliche, but true: much of life comes down to your attitude. You can be positive (or at least stoic), or you can complain constantly. What's better?

Today is #NationalDoctorsDay.

Terminating #DACA would remove 27,000 essential healthcare providers from the workforce when the country needs them the most.

Healthcare workers with DACA are on the frontlines of the fight against the #COVID19 pandemic. Here are their stories 👇
“Right now we are putting our own health on the line…This is my job—to help in emergencies like we are seeing now with #COVID19, which doesn’t discriminate who it infects.” — Jesus, a paramedic supporting his community in Houston, Texas by fulfilling his dream of saving lives.
“I am treating people suspected of having #COVID19, and all I’m asking is to stay in this country and provide that care." — Veronica, LA physical therapist and #DACA recipient usatoday.com/story/news/pol… #HomeIsHere

Thanks to all the great doctors, nurses, and other #healthcare professionals taking such good care of me here at @NYUlangone. #COVID19 #Covid_19 #NationalDoctorsDay
It’s far from a “happy” #NationalDoctorsDay, given the sacrifices you and your families are making - but it underscores the importance and meaningfulness of your work more powerfully than ever. #COVID19 #Covid_19 #coronavirus #CoronavirusUSA

We owe a debt of gratitude to the local heroes keeping our communities safe & running during this unprecedented time.

To our health care workers, first responders, firefighters, law enforcement officers, grocery clerks, mail carriers, delivery drivers & so many others: Thank you
Thank you to the doctors across the Commonwealth who are our unwavering front line soldiers in this fight, putting their own health & safety on the line to combat this emergency.

Remember: When we choose to stay home, we're thanking our health care workers. #NationalDoctorsDay
Child care providers are on the front lines of this horrible pandemic, caring for the children of first responders, hospital workers and so many others. I joined my colleagues in a letter urging @HHSGov to expand safe child care options and support child care providers. ImageImageImage

On National Doctors Day, I want to tell you a story.
And my story is like that of many Americans.

A doctor saved my life.
It was only later that I would learn the tragedy of his life and our time together.

#NationalDoctorsDay
I'd recently become pregnant and then appeared to have a miscarriage on my 35th birthday. I was devastated.

A short month later I was crossing a parking lot holding my five-year-old son's hand just a few days before Christmas. Every step was excruciating. (2)
I felt like a bowling ball was rolling around in my stomach & each step was a punch to the gut. The bleeding & cramps from the miscarriage had waned, but this felt different.

I wanted an appointment with my nurse practitioner, but she wasn't available. I got Jed instead. (3)
