The Civil Nuclear Export Act of 2023 comes just 2 weeks after the "Accelerating Deployment of Versatile, Advanced Nuclear for Clean Energy" (ADVANCE) Act of 2023, headed to the full Senate with widespread bipartisan support, underlining the shifting momentum within the industry.
“For too long, the United States has sat by while China and Russia have worked to dominate the global nuclear energy market…By enabling our partners and allies to turn to the U.S. for civil nuclear technology instead of Russia or China, we will be able to build a supply chain… twitter.com/i/web/status/1…

#ClimateChange is a natural process that occurs over 1000s of years. The reason they say #GlobalWarming is wreaking havoc is due to the human caused CO2 increase. CO2 is necessary for plants & trees to produce food. Due to excessive deforestation and burning of fossil fuels… twitter.com/i/web/status/1… Image

Pleased to finally announce the North American release of our documentary, #NuclearNow, in theaters on April 28th. It took - off and on - nearly 3 years to pull together. This is a pressing global issue, and our goal was always to show it in as many countries as possible. ImageImageImage
I’m excited that the team at @abramorama is our domestic distributor on #NuclearNow, and @mediawanrights our international sales company; @giant_pictures is handling digital and streaming platforms; @rocofilms is handling educational sales. ImageImageImage
Additionally, @Participant, an avatar in producing films with a social and #environmental impact (#InconvenientTruth, #Citizenfour), has come onboard with @thinkfilmimpact to share the important message of #NuclearNow with audiences across the world. ImageImageImage

1/ #uranium thesis update:

- We're not lacking interest, but we are lacking liquidity and funds flow, that changes quickly and typically quicker than you can position in the trade.

- When the trade gains consensus from fund managers and brokers thats when liquidity flows
2/ Right now, what were seeing is choppy markets and no real rush to buy uranium stocks, fund managers and investors interested in the trade are accumulating, but are doing so methodically and on pullbacks.
3/ Sput launch in Sep 2022 did several things, one of those was gain institutional interest & make it easier for large funds to invest in the thematic. It also fundamentally cleaned up the spot market and removed loose lbs. We've seen that in the spot price, $20>$50 a lb in <2yrs

Here is my take on #COP27 outcome(s) on #climate #mitigation based mostly on fieldnotes from COP, focussing on #FossilFuels, #JustTransition & #equity/ambition dichotomy.@TheIndiaForum @girmanipal @CentreMarcBloch @FU_Berlin @NavrozDubash @ClimateDiplo 1/8
theindiaforum.in/climate-change…
I argue, "Despite alarming evidence about the pace of cc, #COP27 failed to raise mitigation ambition. While the 1.5°C limit was salvaged in the end, the lack of consensus on fossil fuel phase-down/phase-out scuttled the possibility of meaningful action in the coming years." 2/8
Not only are #industrialized countries' mitigation commitments grossly insufficient to meet the 1.5°C limit, their efforts to sidestep their pre-2020 commitments, Paris decisions & delink developing countries' mitigation efforts from #climatefinance dilute #equity. 3/8

I wasn't really intending to announce the results of our most recent poll on nuclear until after the appropriate page on our website was uploaded, but I guess - needs-must and-all-that, so let me tell you a story - in numbers & graphics, but lets start at the beginning..🧵

1/24
Between the 11th and the 15th of November 2022, @Ipsosuk conducted their 2nd online survey on our behalf, among a nationally representative quota sample of 3,236 participants aged 16‐75 in the UK, with the data weighted to a nationally representative profile...

2/24
Of this group of participants (n=3,236), 19% (a base size of n=642 of those interviewed) said they were at least to some extent “involved in an environmental campaigning organisation, for example..."

A 🧵...cause I'm getting worried...

It's noteworthy that this @Sprott offering, so germane to the current #ESG zeitgeist, was cancelled. Market sentiment + a general lack of knowledge due to institutional collapse threatens us all.

🧵2/7

The total annihilation of the #MSM lies at the heart of resource ignorance. @RealClearNews makes an effort, but it's difficult to think outside your tribe if you don't already possess general knowledge about natural resources.

🧵 3/7

The average person is informed by #MSM who takes its cue from #politicians who are strong on virtue signalling and weak on policymaking.

Yesterday Russia disconnected Europe's
largest NPP from the grid while it was running hot. They bet a massive meltdown against the chance that some corrupt Russian had not looted some critical part that would keep the backup power from coming online to provide cooling. This was
easily the most insane nuclear stunt of my lifetime. Tens, perhaps hundreds of millions of people and two continents were put under the gun for a stunt. The whole situation there just screams gross negligence on a planetary scale. From the fighting to seize the plant to using it
as a giant ammo dump where any accident could unleash radioactive clouds to deliberately shelling their own positions to generate a false flag operation to yesterdays cooling power stunt all against a backdrop of Russia refusing to let plant workers do their jobs unmolested or

1/23: Energy makes the world go around. Many are questioning our dependence on non-domestic energy. What about #nuclear?

Starting my deep dive with Gwyneth Cravens book: Power to Save the World.

A 🧵 with excerpts from first 3 chapters: Image
2/23: Chapter 1: Survival

"Look at the big picture. If you got all of your electricity for your lifetime from nuclear power, your total share of waste would weigh two pounds and fit into one Coke can. Of that, only a trace is long-lived."
3/23: Chapter 1: Survival (cont'd)

If an American got all of his or her electricity from coal over a lifespan of seventy-seven years, that person's mountain of solid waste would weight 68.5 tons. Picture a soda can next to that. Huge Coca Cola Can, Atacama...

Why fission #nuclearenergy is NOT a solution to global warming problems? @abratusek @Energy4Europe @algore
The data, collected by Cher Gilmore, explain why:
As of 2021, the International Atomic Energy Agency reported that there are about 370000 tons of high-level radioactive waste worldwide needing disposal,
containing over 100 radioactive elements such as: Strontium-90 (which causes bone cancer and leukemia), Caesium-137 (which causes muscle sarcomas and cancers in many other organs), Plutonium-239 (a mutagen that induces bone cancer, lung cancer, leukaemia, fetal abnormalities

My latest @RealClearEnergy :
If you think the world is moving #beyondcoal think again...over the past few weeks, China & India have announced plans to increase their domestic #coal production by a combined total of 700M tons/yr.
@JudeClemente @SierraClub

realclearenergy.org/articles/2022/…
@RealClearEnergy @JudeClemente @SierraClub For perspective, US coal production this year will total about 600M tons. The surge in coal demand in China and India – as well as in the U.S., where coal use jumped by 17% last year – demonstrates two things:
@RealClearEnergy @JudeClemente @SierraClub First, it shows that the Iron Law of Electricity has not been broken,Second, it shows that it is far easier to talk about cutting emissions than it is to achieve significant cuts.

Just like it would be nice to move past all the stale old anti-nuclear objections, articles making the case so poorly, lacking any "convincing power", should be consigned to history.

(Although, considering how much of its length it devotes to challenges besetting developing countries, this sort of snark isn't the best look) Image
This is a bad "But". Ambition by Australia will potentially yield considerable effective influence in our whole region.

Which is precisely why such ambition mustn't be limited in #CleanEnergy options.

It isn't virtue signalling, it's virtue. Image

We know that #NuclearEnergy is one of the largest sources of zero-emissions power in the 🌎, but as any other energy-generation industry, it generates a "waste".

And I got some news for you: It is actually consider a valuable resource, not a waste!

1.#NuclearWaste is an incorrect term for used or spent fuel (Let’s all take note! - myself included)📝

#UsedFuel is made up of metal fuel rods that contains small ceramic pellets of enriched U-235 & it always stay in a solid state.

Ranked: Nuclear Power Production, by Country 🏭

// Thread ↓🧵
1/ Concentrated supply

Just 15 countries account for more than 91% of global nuclear power production

In the U.S., nuclear power produces over 50% of the country’s clean electricity.
2/ Chinese Growth

China, the world’s second-largest nuclear power producer, is investing further in nuclear energy in a bid to achieve its climate goals.

The plan, which includes building 150 new reactors by 2035, could cost as much as $440 billion.

We built this for you, our Pickering #CANDU 🇨🇦 Nuclear Plant.

Even back in the environmental dark ages, we knew it was a much better choice than a coal fired plant. Clean #nuclearenergy for everyone, for Toronto, for Ontario, for Canada, for the future.

Then it was your turn. Image
As Pickering B reached its 30-year theoretical limit of pressure tube life in 2006, you started a project for mid-life refurbishment.

Good move.

The OPG process made its way though a CNSC environmental assessment & preliminary plans were developed.

collections.ola.org/mon/17000/2739… Image
Somehow, you lost your way, which eventually proved both good & bad.

In 2010, OPG decided to run Pickering into the ground instead.

Reasons were not well articulated at the time, Cost was mentioned. Equipment or design issues were popular speculation.

POPPYCOCK. This false electricity panic must stop. This is nuclear/hydro industry-created panic, for these sectors' own benefit. It's as bad as "WE NEED MOAR SUPPLY" in housing. And it's Clean Energy Canada touting it, as usual. (Thread) #bcpoli #SiteC thestar.com/politics/feder…

Before continuing I want to say that I am disturbed that @SFU, my alma mater (@sfuCMNS), houses Clean Energy Canada under @SFUDialogue / Shauna Sylvester. CEC has done nothing but produce false, greenwashing cover for industry, incl #SiteC. Nuclear & Big Hydro are not "clean."

The entire city of Haiyang in China is now heated by its nearby #nuclearenergy plant, making it the country's first city to transition away from fossil-fired district heating.

The Haiyang plant has two Westinghouse AP1000s that started up in 2018 and 2019.
By providing heat as well as power to Haiyang's 2 million people the nuclear plant has replaced 1️⃣2️⃣ coal boilers, saving:
🔥 10 million tons of coal each heating season
🌏 18 million tons of CO2
😷 691 tons of soot
😷 1123 tons of nitrogen oxide
😷 1188 tons of sulphur dioxide

The EU Commission gets it painfully wrong. Addressing the energy crisis AND fighting climate change require:

1. Set a clear path for high and rising #carbon price, putting a floor on what ETS and ETS2 will yield; (1/4)
2. Remove all obstacles to investment in #nuclearenergy, including extending the life time of operating power plants, currently by far the cheapest way to produce zero-carbon electricity at the lowest price and the surest way to avoid blackouts; (2/4)
3. Setting a path for carbon price, high and rising, providing a floor for market prices yielded by ETS1+2. Only way to compensate for the volatility of ETS market and provide incentives for private investment in low carbon technologies;( 3/4)

Today the World Nuclear Industry Status Report will be published! We European Greens have supported this report financially, so that the public is sufficiently informed about the global machinations of the #nuclear industry! Checkout the statistics and go through the #threat:
Let's start with the most worrying figure: The average age of the global #reactor fleet has now risen to 31 years. Many of the currently active reactors were built to run for 30 years but were extended. The older the nuclear fleet, the greater the risk of disaster
The report, which will appear on worldnuclearreport.org today, lists 416 active reactors, 8 more than in 2020. As for the share of nuclear power in the global electricity market, the report sees no change, as in previous years: The share is stagnant at about 10%.
