In 2018 I created an ongoing #ClimateEd thread about the #ClimateCrisis.

Five years later, it's time for an update.✅

This #ClimateAction thread has a TON of info to help EVERYONE get #ClimateBrainy about the #science and facts of #climatechange.📊

Save, share and visit often! Image
Here's the old thread, which I'll no longer be updating:

It still contains MANY informative articles and links from reputable sources, so it's worth revisiting, even if some info isn't all that up-to-date.

The old tag was #Climate_Ed.

New: #ClimateEd👍
This NEW thread will contain PLENTY of top-tier posts from MANY solid #climatescience contributors, so come back regularly to see what's been added.

#Climatebrawl folks especially, as you can use these posts to #refute #deniers handily.

Don't argue with any trolls, however! 🧌 Image

As an Irish citizen of a Constitutional Republic - I am yet again appalled this morning by what I witnessed this Government do to the #Oireachtas in the making of #legislation - facilitated today by @smytho a Minister of State in #DECC from @greenparty_ie - details below👇
On 14 June in 2nd stage debate on a bill on #CircularEconomy & #Mining the Minister flagged in less than 6 lines of words - a major scope change to the bill for "essential amendments on Committee Stage in this House to address some urgent matters concerning energy capacity" BUT👇
17 days later the Government:
😡Had not briefed even informally the JOC HLGH responsible for Planning or the JOC Env & Climate Action responsible for the EPA on the changes
😡Had not ensured a copy of the amendments was on the Oireachtas website for today's debate on them

So, like many parents (& grandparents & teachers & so many others), I've been calling repeatedly for scientifically-sound COVID mitigation measures in BC schools. As a former practicing engineer, I'm stunned at the exclusion of Professional Engineers from school safety plans.
It seems straightforward. The application of ASHRAE guidance requires the skills & responsibility of Professional Engineers (mechanical / building). I spoke with consulting engineering colleagues. They have many commercial clients who are indeed retaining them to

It's #EarthDay so today seems like a good day to share a quick overview of my book, Brave Green World, which I coauthored with Dr Chris Forman (1/17)
With an almost constant stream of scary environmental news, it can be easy to feel disheartened. There are solutions to the environmental crisis - but it requires a rethink of our relationship with matter and energy.
In #BraveGreenWorld, Chris and I set out to understand how we can combine old wisdom with new technology to make our economy more like a natural ecosystem - recycling everything locally and producing next to no waste.

So you've made that critical, brave decision to step up to the greatest challenge in human history. A #ClimateActionHero is always born asking the exact same question as those born before:

These are our 5 takeaways from the #IPCC report on #mitigation, looking at what it means for the #waste sector. Spoiler: we need to cut emissions as fast and furious as we can, and reducing #waste, #plastic and being more materials efficient can help lots
no-burn.org/ipcc-takeaways…
As the report points out, the #waste sector remains the largest contributor to urban emissions after the energy sector, even in low-carbon #cities. Urban areas themselves represent the lion’s share of global emissions, and it's increasing: from 60% in 2000 to 67% in 2015.
So, the @IPCC_CH #ClimateReport recognises that cities can significantly reduce emissions, but this requires systemic transformation: #circulareconomy, #inclusion, #equity, innovative technologies can make a huge contribution towards low carbon urban devel'mnt

Quick thread 🧵to pick out a few main points from this excellent post from @Josie_Warden. There's a lot of good insight in here, and praise for the kind of place-based work we do at @ZeroWasteLeeds. #JoinTheRegeneration 1/

As part of @theRSAorg Regenerative Futures project, we created #LeedsFashionFutures, exploring how together as a city Leeds could once again be a world leader in clothing & textiles - with sustainability at the heart of everything we do.

Excited to see this new paper published in @RCRjournal : doi.org/10.1016/j.resc…
In this piece, I argue that the #CircularEconomy will remain a mere pipe dream as long as the growth imperative drives the economy. Instead, a post-growth approach to circular economy is required.⬇️
1. Circular economy is often heralded as a panacea that will allow green growth. While CE is trending as a topic, empirical evidence shows that, thus far,↗️ in global GDP have been tightly coupled with ↗️in the material footprint and associated ecological impacts of the economy.
2. Is a genuinely circular economy compatible with economic growth? There are, I argue, two main possible paths: persisting in attempting to reconcile the circular economy with economic growth or adopting a post-growth approach to the circular economy.
